Anyone Have A Myomectomy?

it's difficult to guage how your recovery might be based on how others fared. From my own experiences, each of my recoveries were different. One I didn't return to work for 8 weeks, and even then it was a chore. Another I was chomping at the bit to go home that afternoon and was walking 2 miles daily after a few days. All the others were some where inbetween the two.

I do feel that my recovery was dependent on how healthy I was going into surgery. Meaning, when I was terribly anemic, with no energy, recovery was slower.

Anyone Have A Myomectomy?

Hi!
How are you feeling after your surgery?

I had a laparascopic myomectomy and hysteroscopic resection in early December 2004 to relieve EXTREMELY SCAREY heavy bleeding and bladder pressure. The 13 fibroids ranged from marble-size to mostly pingpong ball and racquetball-size.
I spent one night in the hospital because I'm really sensitive to anesthesia and was queasy for several hours afterward.

I was amazed that I was able to get up and walk around just hours after the surgery (once the queasiness subsided, that is).

I went on a short 2 mile hike just a few days later.

It hurt when I coughed or sneezed but that went away within a few weeks.

And now, a year and 2 months later, I have to say I feel pretty good.
Really good, actually. For the first time in about 12 years, I have what seem to be normal periods.

I felt that my recovery went fairly quickly because I took care of myself well before and after the surgery by keeping fit and eating healthy foods.

I hope you're feeling better and stronger with each passing day.

Anyone Have A Myomectomy?

Thank you Kittycats!
I guess I'm doing a little better--I just realized I'm only 16 days post op... I thought I was at least 4 weeks in! Oh well...I think I need to take it easy-the abdominal pressure and my trying to walk is taking a toll on me, unfortunately.

Better days will come.....

Thanks again for responding!

Re: Anyone Have A Myomectomy?

Hi Libit823, that was so inspiring to read. I have my surgery on Monday (abdominal myomectomy) and I exercise 6 days a week. They told me because I eat right and exercise so much that the recovery time is going to be significantly less then when you do not excercise/eat healthy. Now I am excited and I worried that I wouldn't be able to exercise for a while. I take it very seriously so I am looking forward to it now. Thanks again

Anyone Have A Myomectomy?

Hi Niakimble74

I am 3 weeks post op. I have to say that by Gods grace, my recovery has gone very well. I was sitting up and walking the day after surgery.

3 weeks later I am able to do a gentle spin class, and pilates.

I do tire very quickly and listen to my body and do not push it when I feel I cannot quiet stretch to a certain degree. My belly is still a little numb however, each day more feeling comes to it, its like pins and needles gradually wearing off.

The surgeon explained that as I was very fit before the surgery, my body has coped very well with the healing process.

I feel great and I am so pleased I had the surgery, I have also had a period in this time, with no pain, no discomfort, nothing!

I think you can tell from my update that I am jumping for joy!
