Upcoming hysterectomy and possible BSO 6/12 - is surgical menopause really that bad

Will someone who actually went into surgical menopause, tell me if it is really so bad.I am 41 and thinking about removing ovaries with the Fallopian tube and uterus.

Re: is surgical menopause really that bad

I had already gone through natural menopause, without HRT. It was no picnic but I made it through the discomfort, which was less than many experience. Then I had my ovaries removed. The symptoms were more severe and I had issues I had not had before. For the first time, I started HRT as a quality of life issue. Will your symptoms be severe? Hard to say for sure, but they will reflect a sudden loss of hormones, not a gradual decline. Obviously, if someone has cancer or other concerns that dictate ovary removal, the symptoms just are what they are and it's necessary to deal with them somehow afterwards. But if there is no compelling reason, sometimes there are regrets later if surgical menopause is challenging, as it can be. I have regrets, I had no idea it would be so severe. Others may weigh in with a different experience. Give it some serious consideration and make the decision right for you.

Yes it really is that bad. It's liking living in hell. Surgical menopause triggered bipolar 1 in me. If I could go back in time (Lynch Syndrome or not) I would keep my ovaries. Cancer has to be better than this.
I was 41yrs at time of surgery.

Re: is surgical menopause really that bad

Surgical menopause was not bad for me. I had some over heating, emotional issues, pimple breakouts but it was tolerable. My sisters and mom had the same kind of menopause. So it may be hereditary??

Re: is surgical menopause really that bad

I went through it in October 2016 and I can't take HRT. I am 58 but wasn't in menopause before surgery. I actually had high estrogen. So I'm not sure if being younger makes a difference or not. It has not been bad for me. Had some hot flashes but hardly any now. Had vaginal dryness but just finished the Mona Lisa Touch which took care of that issue.
