Finally a Princess ...BUT... questions???
I'm finally a princess, as of last Monday 15th August. I had a TAH. It all went pretty much to schedule, drains, catherda, drips etc.....some pain, nausea and vomiting.
Unfortunately though, my anxiety level was heightened because I found a lump in my breast the night before surgery. It made the recovery period in hospital very stressful until I had an ultrasound on Friday. Thankfully the lump was ok and nothing sinister.
Am at home recovering now - but have found the pain along the incision far more intense than in hospital.... is this normal? I think I may be moving around too much but am not sure what is normal.
Also, the incision seems to get sweaty and smells foul. I don't think it's an infection, but because the skin is folded over and not a lot of air circulates there. I shower and pat the incision dry - but it happens anyway. Is this normal or can anyone suggest something, a cream perhaps to put on that area.
I have lots of trouble getting in and out of bed/lounge etc and feel that horrible burning sensation when trying this manouver..... again, is this normal?
Stitches come out tomorrow and I'm a bit concerned that any movement may make the wound open up. Can this happen?
Also - is it normal to still have bladder spasms 1 week after the surgery?
And....... is it normal to have erratic mood swings. I'm happy one minute and in tears the next.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Finally a Princess ...BUT... questions???
I can only give you my experience. My stitches did not have to be removed. I had one of those invisible incisions...had steri strips which caused an odor. Once they were removed, everything seemed to be OK. Continue to keep the area as dry as possible. The only thing recommended to me was 1/2 water, 1/2 peroxide. I patted it on the incision. This seemed to help alot. Talk with your dr. tomorrow about your incision.
As for being sore, I am 5 1/2 mo. post op and my incision area is still tender, numb, and gets achey if I do too much.
You are still early in recovery. You will experience the burning sensation for quite some time. As for getting up and down...that lasted for quite some time, also. I experienced the bladder spasms for several weeks.
Should you have anything that does not seem normal to you, always contact your dr. just to be on the safe side.
This recovery is a looooong journey. Your body will be healing for 6 mo. to a year. Take care, and best wishes to you!

Venice, nearly everything you said sounds so normal for this early period after your surgery except the smell from the incision. Since it is tucked in skin folds you can try putting some 4x4 gauze there to absorb moisture. You should change it several times a day and call the Dr if the drainage is yellow/green which could indicate infection. I am a "fluffy' sister and my incision was also tucked into skin fold. I used a mirror to check the incision every day just to be sure it was healing well. The bladder spasms lasted for a few weeks. Getting in and out of bed and up out of chairs or the couch was a challenge for a couple of weeks but you will be surprised at how each day brings small improvements. Best of luck for a speedy recovery.
