When can I start to exercise after hysterectomy, not just walk?

I'm thinking, swimming, serious hike with major incline, running, Pilates, aerobics, lifting say 5-8 lbs weight? Do I have to wait till after 6 weeks ?

When your doc says you can. It will probably be *at least* six weeks, and you should start off slowly and gradually. In the mean time, keep walking.

When your Dr. clears you to do so. When I went in for my 6 week checkup I thought I was all healed up - but she discovered that I had many stitches remaining internally and extended my restrictions another 4 weeks. It's best to listen to the Doc. and go with what they advise.

This is a question for your doctor to answer, not the sisters on this board. I was cleared to start exercising at 6 weeks, but need to wait 2 more weeks to return to high impact water aerobics because of all the jumping involved.

If you don't wait the 6 week minimum (more, if your doctor says more), you risk scar tissue, which can cause painful sex or even a painful LIFE. Do you want to have another surgery to remove scar tissue? Some surgeries to remove scar tissue don't work, and people are stuck on painkillers for life.

All to do some aerobics a few weeks early?

I feel your pain, because I'd love to start training now for my next marathon, not just walking around the block...but I remind myself that I need to wait, because if I start too early, I could risk all future marathons.

You definitely want to go with what your doctor says. My doctor has cleared me to start back slowly (I'm just about three weeks out). I've been busy moving this week, but I plan to head back to the gym next week. I will go slow and see how I feel.
