Questions about upcoming surgery

Hello Everyone:
What a great thing this is! I'm a little overwhelmed with the whole idea of having a hyster. But this site is helping me calm down some. I am still waiting on tests results, but my DR is suggesting doing a laparascopic/vaginal hyster. I am kind of anxiuous about the recuperation part and having to take hormomes afterwars (ovaries coming out also). I have lots of questions, regarding how long is the hospital stay and how I will feel afterwards.. has anyone out there had a laparascopic hyster and had their ovaries out? Thanks for any experiences you all can share!

Questions about upcoming surgery

Hi, KH!

It's great to have you join us on the message boards. There's lots of support and information shared here so settle in and enjoy being a part of this wonderful community.

To help you get started, you may want to visit this resource: Pre-Op Page. There is a lot packed in there that will help answer questions as well as provide tips to help you prepare for surgery and recovery.

Did your doctor give you a reason for removing your ovaries? If they are healthy, you may be a good candidate to keep them. Research your options carefully. The ovaries can always be removed later if necessary but obviously they can't be put back once the surgery is over. Hormone therapy can help the surgical menopause but it can be tricky to get the right method of delivery, the correct dose and even the right combination of hormones.

While you wait for some input from others, you may want to browse through the stories in this read-only forum: Tell Your Hyst-Story. Each story has the type of hysterectomy performed in the title so it's easy to find the ones that match the type of hysterectomy you expect to have.

Enjoy the support of your Sisters! Best wishes for your surgery and recovery.

Questions about upcoming surgery

I had a LAVH but kept my ovaries. I only stayed one night at the hospital and the post surgery pain isn't as bad as you think. I'm sore at my incisions (3 on my tummy) and I can tell I'm a little sore inside my tummy too. Sorry I can't help with the ovaries though.

Questions about upcoming surgery

I had the lap, kept one ovary. It is generally an overnight stay if there are no complications. If all goes well the pain is not bad, just bms & gas are painful that first two wks.Discuss any nausia problems if you get nausia from pain meds. Hormones I can't help with because my loan ovary is still working well. From what I see here it can take some time to adjust but there are alot of ladies here on the hormones to help you with those questions. My procedure was fine, recovery was fine, and sex life afterwards better than ever. But I waited the whole 7wks to be released from the Dr.
I hope all goes well for you ! Mine went very well

Hey Guys!
Thanks so much for all your replies. You all are making me feel so much better. My DR is suppose to call me today to talk more about the procedure and possibly schedule it.
I hope to know more by the end of today or tomorrow.
