Soon to be hyster-sister: Embolization 11/22; LSH 12/18
Hello all!
I'm a 27 year old college student and I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy December 18th. A quick medical "hystery" of me: I was diagnosed w/ adenomyosis, interstitial cystitis and pelvic congestion after about 7 years of being misdiagnosed as having "bad periods". My doctor suspects my pelvic issues are related to me having been raped several years back, but it's really hard to say definitely. I've had numerous surgeries over the past several years and have been on many combos of meds. I'm currently taking horse chestnut seed extract for my pelvic congestion, elmiron for my IC, and ovcon 50 to control my cycles. I've been painfree for about a year and half until a few months ago I started flaring up again. I'm now back to being in so much pain that I'm having to take percocets daily to control the pain. I also use a TENs unit, but it just hasn't been enough lately. I'm at the point that I'm ready for a hysterectomy. I do not have children, so that has kinda been the hold up, but I'm okay with adoption at this point. Prior to my supra cervical hysterectomy, I'll be having an embolization to help w/ my pain. My doctor hopes that in having this, I might change my mind about the hysterectomy, but I don't see that happening. I'm just at the point that I can't tolerate any more flare ups. My body is ravaged from the surgeries and medicines. In the past 3 years, I've gained 75 pounds and went from being fit and active to spending all my free time sleeping. I am sick and tired of my entire life being run by my uterus and I'm just ready to move on w/ my life.
I'm excited about the surgeries, but still nervous. Anyone here have an embolization done? I'm really curious how that is going to turn out and how the surgery is. Also, I'm sure lots of people have had the LSH, and I'd like to know how the recovery is.
I'd love to hear from some who have had these surgeries to know what to buy ahead of time (do I need a belly band??) and what to expect in recovery.
Thanks all!

Hi Xia,
I did not have a UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolization) but I did have a LSH for my fibroids. I am still very pleased with my surgery results.
Here is a LSH link that might help you with your research:

Best wishes,
Mary
P.S. I did not need a belly band with my LSH.
