how long should I have help

Hi everyone,

Well my surgery is set for May 14th! I dont know the appropriate letters to use but I am having a hystorecotmy done only leaving the left ovary in place! My husband travel every week for work and will be home for the day of my surgery and thru the weekend and travel again. I have 4 boys ages 9,7,4 and 3 and will be heavily counting on my mother to help out with the chores around the house and the kids and their activities! My dr. says 2 weeks of nothing, week 3 and 4 light activity and 5 and 6 can do what i do now in moderation and slowly and will take 2-3 months to be back to my old self! I guess what I am worried about is how much I need to rely on the help of my mom with the kids during the week!
This site has been a godsent to me and I appreciate all of you who help every single one of us feel better about what we have all been thru

Re: how long should I have help

Hi there-

Are you having your hyst done laprascopically (sp?)

I had my LAVH on April 13th. I have two sons, they are 7 and 6 months. I was fine to do light housework by the third day after surgery. My 7 year old is easy but I still have not picked up the baby, he is 21 pounds. I would say you will be good to go by week 3-4! Just avoid lifting and don't do anything that hurts. Perhpas your Mom or the older kids can help with the vacuuming, etc.

Good luck!

Re: how long should I have help

Trust me you are going to need all the help you can get. Especially if you have an abdominal hysterectomy. I had a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy and my husband came home from Korea and helped me out tremendously. I needed him and my daughter full time for the first two weeks. I am in my 5th week post surgery and am finally fully capable of taking care of myself. I started feeling myself closer to my 4th week after surgery and still have not done any lifting or anything like that.

Re: how long should I have help

I had laproscopic and totally agree with your doctor's recommendation.
I'm so glad you will have your husband and mother to help you at first...and this is a great opportunity for your children to learn how much you need them as much as they need you! They will feel great being able to help you in small ways....even the little one can bring you things! Take care~
