large fibroids causing ovary adhesions??

Hello again.

I am looking at a hysterectomy in the near future but due to my doctor saying he would have to do a vertical incision (20+ week uterus-numerous fibroids, largest 13cm) I was thinking if I could shrink the firbroids a bit, my doc might be able to do a horizontal incision...

In researching my options , I have had 2 consults with 2 different Radiologists specializing in UFE/UAE. At my first consult the IR was concerned that the fibroids had rapid growth (which in reality was 1cm/year over the past 3 years--is this "rapid"??) and recommended a hyst. (I subsequenlty learned form my ob/gyn that this IR is hypersensitive to "possible" cancer due to a lawsuit and has not rec. any of his patients have a UFE..

The second IR I saw today said that the fibroids look like fibroids and that if he did the IR, my symptoms would most likely subside and the fibroids woul probably shrink about 50%. He said my other option was a hysterectomy but he thought the doctor might have to take the ovaries as well since the uterus is so expanded and probably impinging on ligments and the ovaries..soemthing about maybe adhesions.....hmmm. I know this doc doesnt do hysterectomies and is an Interventional Radiologist but it got me thinking...I REALLY WANT to keep my ovaries... my OB/GYn did not mention anything about ovaries maybe having to go-- and in fact said he would leave my cervix in tact as well...

SoI guess my question is...Has anyone had this experience? Went for a SAH and ended up with the ovaries having to be taken due to them having adhesions form on/to the uterus ???

I have a second opinion with a different ob/gyn about the hyst on Friday..

Sorry to be so long winded..I am really trying to weigh all my options and be sure I am doing the right thing for me at the right time in my life..I am 39 and probably have 15+years until menopause...

Any input/exp[eriences would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much to all!!

large fibroids causing ovary adhesions??

I too have a large fibroid, 17x14x12cm & 20+ uterus. My dr is doing horizontal cut. I am 42 & felt that at the rate it is growing (from 9cm-17cm in 4yrs) if I wait to menopause it will be HUGE! Also, it may not shrink completely at menopause because of the size. My mom & Aunt had them but they were 3 mos size & they shrunk. As it gets larger I feel more symptoms, so now it is time to get it out.
