Is feeling down normal before the hysterectomy?

Just been feeling really down...... Not just about the hysterectomy but just going through surgery in general. (removing very large cyst that is affecting my health plus a second one) I want it to be over with because I know it needs done but I am dreading it so much. The IV's were never fun because they can never find the vein so they dig and it hurts like anything when they do that....and just the idea of being put to sleep and wondering if you are going to wake up again and wondering how I will feel later....plus alkl the normal stresses of raising a busy family. If I don't keep busy then all I want to do is cry and I am not a cryer so this is new. Plus the feeling of loss of control and having to depend on others has been bugging me.

I feel the same way! I don't know if it is normal but I am feeling it too!

I am so sorry you are feeling so down. Everyone is different. I couldn't wait for my surgery, and was thrilled when the doc called with the date. The pain I was in took over my life, and I just couldn't wait to be rid of the pain and get my life back. I don't know if this helped, but I hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, it was weird to be at the mercy of the hospital staff. It's a big thing to put your life in someone else's hands and to not be awake for it. Thank God, I had an awesome experience.
I was dreading the IV too, but my nurse injected Lidocaine at the spot she was going to put the IV and it was a piece of cake. Maybe they do that all the time now......I don't know...maybe you could suggest it?
Going to the OR was weird. I was lying on my back and they were pushing me down the halls and stuff. It was weird to watch the ceiling whizzing on by. We got to the "holding area" and all I remember was listening to the nurses chat for about 1 minute, then waking up in recovery and trying to make out the clock because I wanted to know how long it had been. Then I dozed back off. Then I was being wheeled up to my room where my husband and his mom were waiting.
It really goes by so fast. Here I am at 4 weeks and find that all of the worrying was for nothing. Normal, but unnecessary, lol.

My surgery is less than a week away and I have been feeling the same way. I've asked the same question here and everybody told me it's perfectly normal. They say the worst part is the waiting. I know I can get myself into a really bad place some evenings. It does help to keep busy. I've tried to distract myself by loading my mp3 player. It holds a lot of songs, so it's a great distraction.
