Insomnia and Headaches

Ok, pre-hysterectomy I had insomina, A LOT, and frequent headaches. Mostly sinus related (I think) and have had migraines previously. Was hoping after surgery this might change. IT hasn't. Now that I am off the pain meds, I can't sleep. Oh I will got to sleep for about 30 - 45 minutes, then I wake up and fall back to sleep off and on all night. I had a severe headache going in to this surgery which I just thought was caffeine withdrawal. Well, its back. Its almost two weeks post op. Could this be hormone related, before and after? The headache I had before surgery and the one I have now is totally a right-sided headache with pressure above and below my right eye, on the top of my head, and at the base of my skull. Any thoughts. I realize this isn't medical advice, just wanted to know if any of you out there have these problems.......Thanks girls in advance!

PS - I had LAVH. Was able to keep left ovary.

I'm so sorry your problems continue.

Unfortunately, post-op insomnia is extremely common and it may be that which you're experiencing now rather than the same as you had pre-op. But, of course, it's difficult to tell.

Some ladies, who suffer with hormonal migraines, do find they improve if both ovaries are removed. Since you kept an ovary, however, you may find they continue just as before if they're hormonal. I kept both ovaries and my migraines are unchanged which, to be honest, I expected.

You're still very early post-op and I hope you find things settle with time. Sending all good wishes for a smooth recovery!

Insomnia and Headaches

Faithnme,

I had a hormonal headache that lasted for four days after my surgery but I have not had another one. The insomnia is still with me, although I generally manage 2-3 hours of sleep at a time. I have found that exercise helps a great deal with the insomnia.

Insomnia and Headaches

I had the insomnia and headaches then it turned into exhaustion and headaches, I'm just ready for it to balance out so I can get back to a somewhat normal sleeping pattern.

Insomnia and Headaches

faithnme,
I am post menopausal and had migraines frequently, since then their numbers dropped dramatically. So for me hormones made a difference. Now I can count on one hand the number of them I get in one year. As for insomnia, I am experiencing it still at about nine weeks out so that seems to be a byproduct of surgery. It's not every night but enough to be frustrating. I wake up after two maybe three hrs. then lay awake for another 1,2 or even 3 hr. Also had a lot of weird dreams the first couple weeks post op, how about you?
Does any one out there know about how long the insomnia lasts?

Hang in there it all gets better!!

Insomnia and Headaches

I am still waking up a lot. I have been doing this for years though. Was hoping this surgery might help that, but since I kept an ovary, its probably hormonal and won't change until menopause! Headaches are still there too. Not having any bad dreams or anything, just able to remember my dreams since when I do fall asleep, its not a deep sleep. Its like a twilight sleep! LOL
