84 year old worried about recovery

So many responses are from younger patients. My surgery is 8/25/2016 and I need some guidance in getting over my preTAH axiety. Currenltly, I feel fine and feel well.Surgery is because a bleeding routine has been going on for half a year and my uterine lining is 10mm. My dctors, including second opinions, said TAH as best to find out cause and move forward. Feeling ok and going into surgery makes me anxious about how I will feel after all this is done. Any seniors out there? Thanks so much for this site.

Re: 84 year old worried about recovery

You do a search on this website for older ladies as I did see one a couple weeks ago about your age. Just search 84 years old or another age close to yours.
I was only 54 when I had mine.

Re: 84 year old worried about recovery

I was in my 50's, but my mother was in her late 70's, and our experiences were similar. I think you are wise to plan ahead, especially if you have other health issues. Recovery varies a lot from woman to woman, despite age, so my recovery was far easier than some younger women. Overall health as well as age makes a big difference. Do you have some help at home, or can you arrange some from family, friends, or home health? You may need help with shopping, laundry, and possibly other household tasks, depending on how you heal. You'll want to know how to reach your Dr on weekends and off days, and may want an extra follow up visit early on. As you know, at 84, there is a lot of variation in health status, so your plans may be different from someone else. It will be important to maintain your mobility so as not to lose what you start with. If you can arrange at least one nurse visit to evaluate how you are doing, I would do that. Pain meds will be an issue, do discuss the pros and cons of your options in advance. We are here for support, you will likely have similar concerns regardless of your age. I hope your surgery and recovery go well, let us know how you are doing.

Re: 84 year old worried about recovery

My mother had her TVH surgery at age 77. Spent one night in the hospital and took no pain meds. Never looked back.
She's 89 and still living independently.
