3.5 weeks post hysterectomy: "You shouldn't have any pain"
Had my total vaginal hysterectomy, tubes, ovaries everything removed on July 2nd due to endometrial cancer. I had pain, bad pain the first week and then continuing pain, and my doctor and his nurse basically told me I didn't have pain and there was no reason for it. I said I think I have a UTI or other infection so he did a UA, and it showed infection but the culture showed nothing. So he dismissed my pain as being in my head. I ended up in the ER today with the same exact problem and again the UA showed infection but the culture said nothing, and the doc said he was going to give me antibiotics for a UTI anyway. I said "what if it's my surgical site, my vaginal cuff or a pelvic infection. He did an exam and omg there was so much pus. Gross. He decided to do a CT scan and sure enough I have vaginal cuff cellulitis and pelvic abscess. I've been in pain for weeks. It shouldn't take weeks for a doctor to listen. So sisters: be your own advocate. If you have pain don't let doctors tell you you don't. We know our own bodies and doctors need to pay attention. Grrrrrr. So I have antibiotics and pain meds, but I've read that I should've been treated with IV antibiotics. Thankfully my gynecologic oncologist at Mayo Clinic in MN is an amazing woman and I will be calling her service tomorrow to see if they agree with the treatment plan. They are so amazing there I cannot express my gratitude to them how's everyone else doing? Maybe I'll be able to have a bm without astronomical pain someday. Fun.

Re: "You shouldn't have any pain"
I was told with my two abscesses that I only needed IV antibiotics because one of my abscesses couldn't be reached to drain and wasn't ruptured or getting smaller.

Weird. I thought I would have gotten IV antibiotics too. I never know what doctors are thinking

Re: "You shouldn't have any pain"
I was kept for 8 days on IV antibiotics. Apparently because they started them in the ER, it was best that I stayed for the full course. Also, I'm Canadian, so didn't have insurance or cost issues.

Sounds like your doctor did a good job. I was in the ER and they sent me home with oral antibiotics and I'm pretty sure that's not what they should have done. Insurance and cost wasn't an issue for me either. Grrr now I'm worried

If my abscess was caught the first time I went to the ER, I would have had oral antibiotics. It had wrapped around my bladder and I was in mild sepsis when they admitted me and gave me if antibiotics.
