Abdominal Hysterectomy scheduled for 10/6. So nervous!

I'm having an abdominal hysterectomy on October 6th. The Dr. is going to go through my c-section scar (2 c-sections). I have been seeing this doctor for a year and in that year we have tried the highest dose of birth control that he could prescribe, a biopsy that showed my uterine lining grows at different rates, a d&c, and I am still bleeding for 17-21 days each month. I'm on iron supplements but am still anemic. My u/s showed that my uterus is enlarged and my ovaries are small. Doctor suspects adenomyosis and possibly endometerosis due to my pain. Hysterectomy is my last resort, but I am still so anxious about it. I am a 27 year old stay at home mom of two amazing children. My little boy is 5 and has Autism and my little girl will be 3 next month. I worry about not being able to care for them while I recover. My husband is taking two weeks off work to help me, take care of the kids and take our son to therapy, and clean the house, but I hate feeling helpless and like a burden. The Dr. said I will spend two nights in the hospital, have my staples removed in a week and will be fully recovered in 6-8 weeks. Is there anything that I can do to speed up recovery? Is recovery from a hysterectomy about the same or more difficult that a c-section? What can I expect once I get out of surgery? Thanks in advance.

I'm 28 and a Mother of 7yr old boy. I had a hysterectomy 2wks ago this coming Thursday. For the same reasons as you except my bleeding was so bad I had a blood transfusion 2wks before surgery and at the time of surgery. Listen to your doctors and take it easy. I am getting around pretty well but I don't push myself bc I know I'm still healing. I have had no bleeding since the hospital and feel good most of the time. I'm just tired alot I think bc I only sleep 4-5hrs a night. I still haven't been able to sleep much since surgery. I hope this helps.

Thank you. My list is filled and ready for some good ol' fashioned binge watching (in between walks and naps at least). Tomorrow is the BIG day. So jittery today. My stomach is in knots, but tomorrow it will be done and I'll be on the path to recovery.

Thank you. That was very helpful. I pray you continue to recover well. I've heard that I will sleep pretty much the entire day the first day is that true? I'm so anxious and I doubt I will sleep at all tonight. I have to be at the 'castle' at 6am.

Abdominal Hysterectomy scheduled for 10/6. So nervous!

I got to my room and was in pain so I slept until the next morning. I used that pain pump but then the next day. I was able on get up and only used it a couple of times. The first few days will the worst but nothing you can't handle. I'll be praying for you. I sleep in between two body pillows when I got home. Make sure you have something for gas. The nurses were very helpful and helped me walk so the gas didn't get as bad as it was with my c-section. My doctor also went through my scar.
