Germ-a-phobia
I'm I being over worried? I'm scheduled for 1/16, but I'm worried about getting sick. It seems that almost everyone in my house is sick one way or another (3 out 6). I had to take my oldest to the doc today, she has a mild sinus infection, my twins both have coughs and low-grade fevers. I went out and bought hand sanitizer to keep by my computer. I'm trying to make sure no one drinks out of my glass. I'm beginning to think I'm over reacting, but i don't want to take a chance. I'm taking sudefed because I wake up each morning with a stuffy nose.
What should my main concern be? BEsides not get sick, every sniffle and I start to panic...
Going NUTS!!

I had to chuckle at your post. I was the same exact way! I remember buying a huge can of Lysol and spraying the entire house down...door knobs and everything. Just make sure you are getting lots of rest, drinking lots of water & take a multi-vitamin. Seemed to work for me.
Take care & Happy Holidays!

Germ-a-phobia
Hi Toni
Frequent handwashing is supposed to be the best way to avoid illness, also don't ever touch your eyes or nose as that is the easiest way for germs to enter your body.
If you haven't had a flu shot call your DR and ask about it.
If you do find yourself getting sick a couple of weeks before surgery call your DR immediately! There are new medications on the market that can decrease the severity of colds and flu, and also their duration.
Don't try to self medicate when you are within 2 weeks of surgery. It is much better to be safe than sorry!
Best wishes!

Germ-a-phobia
I caught a cold a week before my surgery, so I took Vitamin C tablets daily, drank lots of orange juice and water and that seemed to help me get better faster. And the hand sanitizer is a lifesaver also. I still had remnants of the cold the day of my surgery, but nothing to postpone it. Just take care of yourself and you should be okay. :-)

Oh hon..you are going crazy. I'm the same way and I'm 7 days away from my surgery.
Everyone went through the worse flu and now they are getting better. Thankfully! I don't do a lot of Lysol though. That can kill the good germs and bad germs. The good germs you need to fight off the sickies.
I'm on a multi-vitamin and that seems to be doing the trick.

Suggestion to avoid colds...
Personally, I'm getting quite paranoid
I do have a suggestion - it may look weird, but droplet infection is a great way to catch the flu. In Japan, I gather they that when they have a cold, the Japanese wear a mask so they don't infect others. Sensible people.
Well, I figured, why can't I wear a mask to prevent being infected? So I am. I don't give a hoot what anyone may think, at this point I'll do anything to keep well enough for next week!
LadyOphelia, we have the same date! Smooth sailing to us both!

Thank you for all the wonderful ideas. I bought some vitamin C and I'm going to get some multi vitamins soon.
Orin I really like that idea, could you just imagine walking into the mall, with a mask on with BIG red lips. My thought is if people are going to stare at least give something interesting to look at. My mom did that for a friend when I was younger. Her friend had gotten metal in both eyes and had to wear patches for several weeks. My mom painted eyes on the patches (one blue and one green). Her friend that at least now she could stare back when she felt like people were staring at her. hehe

I wish there would be a sweep around the world of people wearing surgical masks when they are sick. Here in the US people would think you had some horrible contagious disease and probably taunt you or even worse. It is doing everyone a favor not to spread your germs. It is sad though. I mean I haven't worn one yet. Afraid of what people would think, say. We should start a trend that wearing masks when you are sick is cool.

Germ-a-phobia
My surgery is Dec. 15, I work in a bank, handling all that filthy money, I have been trying to get a cold for 3 weeks! I sneezed and sniffled all day today. I am eating those coldeze tablets like they are chocolate (wish they were). I too am so scared to get sick, my hands are like sandpaper and I wash them constantly and cover them in antibacterial stuff. We are not being silly, just cautious! I especially take concern over deposits from the doctor's offices, they called once and said strep was rampant, to make sure we washed our hands well. Best to you all, Mari
