Constipation is an issue

Good morning sisters! I got through the first week taking the softeners and laxative and things were back to normal, and off the pain meds as well. I've been drinking green tea, lots of water, juices and eating good foods. Now all of a sudden I have a horrible blockage problem and have tried everything including enema and the hemmoroids are awful. Has anyone else encountered this so late in recovery? I'm on day 15. Also, I am having trouble sleeping and if I do, I have terrible nightmares. Like I said, I've been off pain meds for over a week. Any comments?

Ksis,

Sorry you are having trbl. Are you hearing any rumblings comming from your abdomen? That is a good sign. Call your Dr if it has been several days since your last BM ,and there are no rumblings going on down there

I was still taking the stooler softners when I was 15 days post. Not good to be straining.
I got very bloated and gas was horrible this past week. So I have kept a steady flow of Gas X in my system this helps.
Sometime the gas can be worse then the original surgery pain.

You might ask your Dr if you can start walking short distances just to get things going.

My only thought is maybe add more fiber. Maybe some prunes & fiber one cereal on your yogurt? Good luck.

How much are you exercising? It definitely helps to move things along. But I know you cannot exercise if you are in pain, sort of catch 22.

I'm 9 days into recovery from my TAH. My first day home from the hospital was really bad, but after that, it's been a lot better.

I still take Colace twice a day. Eat three prunes for breakfast and three before bed. 1/2 a bran muffin for breakfast and an apple for a snack. I drink four 20 oz bottles of water a day and so far, that's worked for me.

Someone mentioned that warm prune juice and ginger ale mixed together really gets things moving. I keep both on hand just in case. Maybe that will work for you.
