bleeding after hysterectomy?

Hi ladies im unsure to as whats normal and whats not. Basically I started to bleed (mixed in with clear discharge at first) just like a normal period but then it got so heavy for 2 days I was tired. It lasted 6 days before turning all brown and stringy... just like a period? But the following day I was bk to spotting red? 12 days on and its just continuous spotting between brown and bright red?? Im nervous about seeing doc again so could anyone shed any light on this? Thanks so much

Re: bleeding after hysterectomy?

I am 9 weeks from vh and i stopped spotting after 7 weeks. I had heavy dark red blood during week 6 and found out i had an infection. After starting antibiotics, It all went away. I would call your doctor if you start heavy bleeding.

Re: bleeding after hysterectomy?

Some bleeding or spotting post op is normal. The general rule is usually if you soak a pad an hour, you need to be seen.

Sometimes spotting or bleeding is a sign that we may be overdoing things. Sometimes it happens when sutures and stitches start to dissolve or fall out.

I know that you are nervous about seeing your doctor, but I think you should give your doctor a call. S/he will let you know what or if anything needs to be done. It will also give you peace of mind

Re: bleeding after hysterectomy?

I am so glad that you saw your doctor. Since everyone is different, it's so hard to say what is normal and what is not. So it's always best to err on the side of caution and check with your doctor. Prayerfully the antibiotics will clear up the infection and that you won't have any further complications. So just rest and let the antibiotics do its job so you can heal and be happy
