I got some meds for the bladder pressure but I do not think it is helping so when I saw to the doctor this morning he told me to stop that medicine and gave me another med for a yeast infection, I guess when it rains it pours. I also get tired but try not to nap during the day or I won't sleep at night. I asked today how the internal treatments will effect me and was told they have less side effects then the externals so now I am just waiting to see what happens.
I am also on HRT, my gyn/oncologist said it is crazy not to take them, he started me with Premarin .3 and then upped it to .625, the night sweats & hot flashes are gone but I still get emotional at times, I can handle that if its the only thing I am dealing with. Ask your doctor again if he/she will give you something, you shouldn't have to suffer.
Good Luck

Hi, Did you have endometrial cancer? I was told that I couldn't go back on Premarin anymore because of the cancer, even though the hormone treatment didn't cause the cancer. I hope the doctor will let me because when I was on it for 4 months before the cancer diagnosis it helped immensily.

endometrial cancer/surgery/recovery
Hi Red,
Here is a link to a previous post from me regarding my HDR experience. One thing I did before the treatments was to have a long discussion with the radiation oncologist and his nurse. I wanted to know the steps and any possible discomfort, etc. I also wanted to make sure I'd get a relaxant and anti-nausea meds, which I did (on the first treatment).
Another thing that is pertinent to anyone having HDR is the likelihood of vaginal shrinkage post-procedure. You will probably hear that after a period of healing, you'll need to keep the vaginal tissues stretched by regular intercourse or use of a dilator.
Good luck and keep in touch here!

Thanks so much for all the information. I went to your informational posting as you suggested. I did have a long visit with the radiation oncologist to discuss everything beforehand but I think I was in such a fog that I don't remember everything he said and I didn't know what questions to ask.

Those of you having the internal radiation should be so thankful that your doctors are doing this. I begged my Onc for Brachytherapy and she said no, she felt I was cured and did not need it. I asked for 2 years and she refused for 2 years. My mistake, although I did not know and after all she was my dr.
Well, I have had a recurrence to my vaginal cuff, which I am convinced I would not have had if I had had the internal. Now there is nothing else they can do.
So, ladies, no matter how uncomfortable this may seem just close your eyes and say "I am lucky".
God bless each of you and it will be over soon.
Juanita

Red,
Yes I have endometrial cancer, stage 2B grade 3. When I was released from the hospital without HRT I figured I would have to grin and bear it but when I went to my gyn/oncologist he asked me if I had any symptoms and when I told him about the night sweats, hot flashes and crying he said no one has to suffer through that and it is very old school medicine not give women who have had hysterectomies HRT even if they had cancer. Like he said you can't get ovarian or cervical cancer since they were already removed.
My regular gyn agreed with giving me HRT and said he was glad the oncologist recommended it too. From what I understand I am on a very low dosage but its working so I am not complaining. I still get emotional every now and then but its is a lot better then it was in October and November.

Juanita, Oh my! I'm so sorry you are going through that. Thank you so much for encouraging others who are having the radiation. Will they give you chemo or anything now? I wish you the best. Thank you.

Thank you all for your info. I will know more about the type of internal rad after my appointment on 15th. All I know is it is a one off 12 hour session.
Thanks and keep sending any info.

Hotl flashes
I have tried 800 iu of vitamin E each day for hot flashes and that has helped.
before my endo surgery, I used to use black cohosh for hot flashes and it worked. My gyn said it is ok to use. I would try the vit E first for a couple of weeks . Thanks for the question, my hf's have come back and this reminded me to go back to the E.

Is that common to have radiation treatments? ; My doc told me with well defined endometrial (stage 1) that just removing the uterus, ovaries, cervix. should be enough... Surgery sched. for Jan 31, 2008...
I am tired of picking myself up off the floor when they tell you more.
Had good pap late nov. D&C mid dec. and now surgery.

Regarding hormones: both my gynecologist and gynie/oncologist told me that hormones should be avoided at all costs with endometrial cancer. And I do have to say, that while it was very uncomfortable for about six months, once I was "over the hump," I seldom now have a hot flash (and when I do it is very manageable), no more night sweats or mood swings. Remember something about the hormones: they don't "cure" you, or really take away the symptoms, what they do, is delay the symptoms by providing phony estrogen. Once you are "drained" of the estrogen, phony or otherwise, the symptoms come. I don't know: I was 48; had an aunt who was on estrogen for 15 years, and at 70 was weaned from it and experienced the symptoms. I could handle it at 48, even with radiation (external and internal) and chemo -- at 70, why would anyone want to go through that?
I would prefer to just get it over with. Except on very young women who have had hysterectomies, there really is no need for the hormones; on those women, they are trying to maintain body levels to lessen problems like bone loss. If you were due for menopause anyway, it's, while uncomfortable, easier to do it naturally and have a rough few months, than take pills forever. My opinion only.
