Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

I was wondering how good any of you feel and how far along you are and when you started feeling better ??????? What kind of procedure you had ???????????? I am hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. I know I am only 8 weeks. But I just want to see when I could possibly feel like myself again. I had a TAH and kept my ovaries. I am just so sick of feeling fatigued all the time even if I don't do anything. I want my life back.

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

Hi aware - I am just about 7 months post-op from TAH - I am feeling pretty good now and not so tired anymore. It took a good couple of months to start feeling better and the fatigue lasted quite a long time (maybe an age thing too - soon to be 46). Now I don't really have any problems except every morning my stomach is bloated but this goes away when I get up. Also sometimes in the heat I have stomach swelling at the end of the day.

I can't believe though how fast the time has gone - you are still very early in your recovery and I wouldn't worry if you still have concerns for awhile - the 6 week mark wasn't really a magical turning point for me - it took a little longer - one day you will wake up and your surgery won't be the first thing on your mind. Take care of yourself and be patient, Veronica

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

Tomorrow will be one year for me. I feel great now. I was down for about 3 months.. (I had two surgeries though.) Even after the 3 months at home recooping. After work I needed naps for a couple months. I all seems so long ago now. I am so glad I had it done. I am able to do so much more now and I am happy.

GOOD LUCK!! It is OK to take as much time as you need to get well. Don't push it--it will happen.

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

I am just one week into my 8th month post-op and feeling much better, thanks. Yes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel; it is just that the tunnel can be long and dark.... I had a TAH/BSO. Just over a month ago, I was ready to go into the woods and scream cuz I was so sick of swelling and being tired all the time. I don't feel that way now. Hang in there! Patience is the gigantic exercise in this recovery journey, at least it was for me!

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

Hey there aware

I am at the 8 month mark and I have to say that I am back to normal. I was actually back to my old self at about 4 months.

I was recovered enough to start burning the candles at both ends and occasionally striking a match in the middle.

I must be feeling great because I am back to doing way too much, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Continue to take it easy while you can. - lots of water - and

Blessings on you ...

I'm nine months out from surgery and I'm doing pretty well. I'm having some problems with the menopausal symptoms but basically I'm doing pretty well.

For me I really turned the corner at about 3 months. I had more energy and felt pretty good.

You're still pretty early on in your recovery. There IS light at the end of the tunnel. It's hard to see the improvement day by day but just look back at how you felt at 2 weeks and 4 weeks post surgery. I'm sure you've made great progress since then.

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

I am 8 months post-op and don't feel like my old self. I was back at the gym a week post-op, driving the day after I came home from the hospital (TAH) but I still don't feel completely right. I am tired a lot and my emotions are in overdrive though I kept my ovaries. I have heard that it MIGHT take a year, but it will get there. Just start out slowly trying to get back into your old habits. My husband is a surgeon and he says that H is really major surgery and it just takes the body time to heal, from lungs adjusting to having general anesthesia to everything repairing itself. Do a little at a time but don't push it too much. My husband says 6 weeks is a good starting point for trying to get "back to normal" but not to be disappointed if it takes much longer. Hang in there sister.

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

Hi aware-yesterday was 6 months for me. I have noticed things are getting better. There are some days that I don't even know I had surgery and others when I still have twinges that remind me I had major surgery. The test for me was going to Disney World for 10 days. I never thought about the surgery or had any problems with the rides or the walking. It was actually a relief not to have to pack tampons, pads, etc. Remember, you are still early in your recovery and things do get better day by day. Everyone's body recovers differently. Hang in there. Take it easy and recover well.

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

Thank you to all yo ladies for responding. I have recently called my Dr. about the fatigue. The Dr. had me on iron pills at first and when I ran out he said I didn't need them anymore. But I have noticed that I am very fatigued now and felt so alive on them. The Dr. had me do another blood test to see if I still need iron pills. Now I am waiting on results. As much as I hate those pills because of constipation, I felt so much better on them and would definitely take them again if I need them. I am gald that everyone replied and I know I need to be patient and I will definitely be looking down that long dark tunnel to see the light and it wil eventually come into view. It is great to hear about recovery times. Bless you all

Questions for those 6 months to a year post-op

Hi aware -
I am over a yr post-op and it takes time, so don't push yourself too hard. It varies for each of us and sometimes it is 2 steps forward - 1 step back. I know that one well - even now - but I had to have major shoulder surgery 6 months after my hyster. With both my hyster and with my shoulder - I was told by the docs - it takes 6 mo - to a yr to be fully recovered.

Do ONLY what you feel up to doing, rest regularly, walking/exercise helps too. Hang in there - you take care of you now - it will pay off later.
