Help! Anybody got any home remedies for heartburn?!

I have 2 days before surgery and I have heartburn terrible...when I bend over to pick something up...acid comes up. I think I have GERD..but I can't take any meds.

i know this may sound sooo very silly,but please hear me out..i have heard form am edical person,to drink a bit of vinegar..i know thats crazy since you have acid already,but ive been told this really works...also,you can take some baking soda,put about a tsb in a cup of water,that works wonders..hope this helps....ive done the baking soda,and it does take the heart burn away....sonie

my aunt always takes baking soda, it seems to work for her, I can't take any liquid meds so I can't say for sure, but it won't hurt to try!

My doctor said there was no problem with taking antiacids before surgery. Hope you're feeling better soon! Good luck on Thursday.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll pass on the vinegar..but I do appreciate the help. I have been taking antiacids..and I'm really trying to watch I eat...it has helped some.

Baking soda works really well and will give you the BEST burp ever! However, there is a lot of sodium in baking soda so don't use too much or too frequently. Check with the doctor again about taking Tums (calcium carbonate) or an over-the-counter H2 blocker like Pepcid. You should also check with the anesthesiologist. I'm sure he/she would want to minimize any risk of you aspirating acid into your lungs during surgery.

I love Mylanta. I've tried alot of antiacids and this works best for me. I also keep it in the refridgerator, it not only tastes better, but feels good going down cold. Good luck!!!

Well I use Tums and this usually takes care of both indigestion and heartburn.
If I am still having a problem then I find drinking a coke helps.
