surgery prep.

Hi,
I going to have abd.hyster. Oct 6/04.
Is the Dr. should tell me what is he going to do, where is the cut going to be, how long ect.? He just told me the abdominal is the way , no other.
Anyone can help me out, what do I expect?

Is there a chance you are going to talk with your doctor before the surgery? Possibly another appointment - where you could ask more questions about the surgery, expected recovery, and/or possible problems?

It is suggested that we write down every and anything we might want to know about the surgery - where we can ask our doctor for the answers.

I know when I went yesterday for a conference with my doctor, though I wrote everything down I wanted to ask - I forgot to ask the questions. I get a second chance next week to ask what I didn't.

Maybe you could schedule a conference with your doctor to discuss and concerns.

Like the others have stated, ask your doctor any and all questions. I had a list of questions I wanted answered, ran them by a couple of good friends to make sure I wasn't being a "sissy", or that I hadn't forgotten anything, and took them (the list of questions) with me during my last pre-operative appointment. She didn't have any problem taking the time to give me a good understanding of what she was going to do and why. Don't be afraid to ask your questions -- after all, this is a real big event in your life.

I got the prescriptions for pain relief after I got home and filled it a few days ahead of time. She then started me on HRT the second day following surgery.

I was off work for eight weeks and also got the necessary documentation to give to my employer from my doctor.
