somebody to share their LSH or LTH experience
I am to have a LSH on June 10 .because of large fibroids. Anybody out there who has had this done. What do I expect? How long in the hospital? How much pain should there be? Were you sent home with pain killers. I have been told this is the best method with a better recovery time . I am getting very nervous and would really like some input and support .

Hi!
While you are waiting for Sisters with experiences to share, I wanted to share a link with you where you can read stories posted in the past by others. It's called Tell Your Hyst Story. You can't reply to the posts, but it's a good way to read a lot of experiences! They are all prefaced by the acronym of the type of surgery so it's easy to browse to find the ones you want to read.
Best wishes to you!

Hi Indieanna,
You have come to a great place!! We Hyster Sisters are here to help if we can.
I am one year post-op from my LSH and I am still very pleased with my surgery results!! I also had fibroids. I had my surgery as an outpatient and I went home the same day. I took prescription meds for 10 days and then switched over to tylenol for any mild discomfort. I took 2 weeks off from work and then went back with a Dr's okay. Truthfully, 3 weeks would have been nice!! In my opinion, the first 6 weeks are the most important for healing.
Here is a LSH thread running right now with LSH Hyster Sisters. You might want to check it out.

Hi,
I had my LSH almost 6 wks ago. I spent just one night in the hospital. I was pretty uncomfortable moving around the first week, as I had some *upset* nerves at one of my incisions. The little buggers were pretty vocal when I tried to move around. I don't tolerate drugs well at all, so only took them for 2 days once home. I found that when resting in bed with a hot water bottle on my tummy I had minimal discomfort. I have very slowly increased my activities, and backed off when I realized I'd over-done. My incisions still cause some minimal discomfort, the one with the disturbed nerves being most vocal when I've done too much. I don't have all my energy back yet, and sometimes still take an afternoon nap.
So...the good part...I only have 3 small incisions, only had 2 days immediately after surgery of *very* minimal drainage/spotting, have now been through 2 cycles with no bleeding whatsoever, I don't have to take iron anymore, *and* my monthly pain and bleeding is longer ruling my life!
This recent thread mat also be helpful.

As you may know, with the LSH there is a small chance of mini-periods. If that's a concern, there have been lots of threads recently about this too.
Wishing you the best with your surgery!

Hi There,
I had a LSH for fibroids on Jan 18th. I stayed one night in the hospital. I had very little pain. Mostly shoulder pain from the gas they give you in surgery. Gas-X helped with that.
I am very pleased with my results. My Dr. cleared me for almost all activities by week three. By six weeks I'd say my energy was 90% back. At six months I hardly remember I had surgery.
This surgery has given me quality of life back. No more bleeding for days on end. I feel blessed.
I wish you well,
Sirap

Indieanna,
I had LSH on 1/28 due to large fibroids and heavy bleeding and feel great! I didn't feel any pain when I awoke in recovery, however, after a few hours I felt more swollen and achy. At that point I started getting IV Toradol every 6 hours until I left the hospital the next day. I did get nauseous two times and was given medication which made me sleep. I had my catheter removed early the morning after and it did not hurt. It I was able to urinate immediately after with no pain. took almost 2 days for my bowels to start working properly. I never felt what I would call persistent throbbing pain, only discomfort when getting in and out of bed. Twisting my torso smarted because the incisions were being affected. I was uncomfortable and very tired for about a week -- took 600 mg Motrin to help keep the inflammation down. After that it was amazing how quickly I started feeling good. I was careful to walk everyday, rest most of the day, drink lots of water, and took gas-x and stool softeners. At about week three I felt normal except for my swollen abdomen. At week 4 my Dr. cleared me for exercise. I overdid it the first week and pulled some glute muscles which took 2 weeks to recover from (lesson learned). Dr. said I could go back to work at 4 weeks but said it was okay to go back at 6 weeks because my employer allowed it. I worked part time the first two weeks to ease into it. Now, everything is great. It is so exciting to not bleed and feel excrutiating gas and pressure each month. I have discovered I am having mini-periods, but they are indeed very miniscule. For 1, maybe 2 days a few times each day - when I wipe myself a slight brownish stain appears on the toilet paper. That's it! Definitely no big deal, especially compared to before. Now at 14 weeks I still swell, but not as much. Other than that, I feel quite normal and HAPPY! Hope this helps you. Take good care of yourself.
Linda
