dVH/RALH: davinci surgery tom. allergic to pain meds ...scared.

Hi my name is jess. I am having the davinci robotic assisted laproscopic radical hyst tom.
I am not so much scared of the surgery or the getting put under but what I am affraid of is the pain after (I am allergic to all narcotic and perscription meds in the book). I am so affraid of what the pain will be like. One of the many reason they chose the davinci less invasive over the abdominal is for less minimal pain and I am hoping and praying that is true. I have read encouraging things that a lot of women just manage the pain with simple tylenol and what not... but I guess Im more of a I want to actually hear it from someone that has been there kind of person. I guess I just needed to voice my concern in hopes that someone can relate or has been there!

I hope my reply will reach you before you go to the hospital and ease your fears. I had a TAH on sep1. I am too alergic to morphine and other narcotics make me nauseas. After surgery I was given throug the VI some med that is like stroger version of the OTC pain meds. I worked fine for my big surgery. I almost had no pain at the incision.
Just make sure you tell the doctors and nurses about your problem and they will find a solution for you.
Your surgery is the expected to be les invasive with minimal pain so I hope you will be fine.

I am probably too late to reassure for your surgery, but I just wanted you to know that anyone who has these major allergies has this extra fear.
By the time you read this you will be on the road to recovery!!!

I had a davinci procedure on 09/02 and everything is fine with me only major thing that has bugged me is gas pain so just make sure to have gas x or mylicon. Pain wise you can just take motrin 800 or tylenol w codeine best of luck

My surgery pain was not tremendous. They did give me some meds in the hospital but at home I was off the percocet after the first few days. I think if you did some bigger doses of OTC meds you would be okay but make sure your doctor knows and get his / her recommendations.

I had the da vinci procedure on 8/10 and I never took pain medication after. I think the day after I took a motrin 800 mg. but that was it.

Thank you so much for all your reassuring posts you ladies sure now how to make someone fell better and understood in their time of need. I would type more in the way of thank yous but I am in the middle of my bowel cleansing and well yea we all know how that goes!! GOD DOES THIS STUFF TASTE NASTY!!!
