Internal stapling?
Hi all
Just went and had a look at pelvicfloor.com as I was curious to see what they do in a lap assisted vaginal Hysto'.
I was a bit taken aback by the fact that in this one at least, they used rows of internal staples after cutting everything away.
I did not realise they used this method?
Do we get a choice?
Do these staples hang about in there forever , or do they dissolve to?
Can they cause any problems later on?
I have heard of stomach stapling before, but I did not know they staple all the raw edges during a hysto'.
I am due to see my Gyne at pre op in October, and I will be asking him these questions, but I just wondered if this was routine now or if anyone had ever suffered any problems with this method (am I worrying about nothing as usual?)
If there is a choice, I would go with internal sutures or lazer cutting (if they do that), just don't fancy being stapled. Although I guess there is not much room for a needle and thread when it is done during laparoscpy and vaginally
I am at the 'scare myself silly stage' one month to go to Op' day, but I do want to know everything before I go in, after all, once it is done, all choices are over .
best wishes
Eastbourne

Internal stapling?
Hi
Sounds awful! I had 22 staples but those were on the abdominal incision. I just can't see how it's possible to have internal staples ... how would they dissolve or how would they be removed?
Someone I'm sure will know! If not, let us know what your doctor says? Weird!!
Take care and no more looking at those 'scare-yourself-silly' websites ... big mistake! Don't forget, good news is no news!

Internal stapling?
Because of adhesions, my doctors used micro staples internally during my BSO. There are 60 to 90 of them on both sides. Because I can't feel them, I forget they are there. A radiologist noticed them on an xray once a year later so they do not go away. I hope this helps. Kathy

Internal stapling?
I had a vaginal hyst/BSO with repairs, and had all internal sutures (stitches). However, a year later, I had most of my colon removed through a large vertical incision. The incision was stapled. Internally the surgeon used a combination of thermal sealing (Ligasure) and titanium staples. The staples are still there two years later and will always be there. Because they are titanium, they don't interfere with MRI's or set off airport metal detectors - but they do show up on x-rays, including DEXA scans.
I don't feel them at all - in fact, if I hadn't read about them in the surgery report, I would not have realized they were there until the technician at a recent DEXA scan pointed them out.
s,
-Linda
