How much/far/often are you walking??

littlevern...Hi! I am 10 days post-op of a LAVH so I have 4 incisions. I went home the same day as the proceudure and my DH had to take out the catheter the next morning...bless his heart! I am also a teacher and I go back in August. I had a DC/Lap in March and returned 4 days later to teach...BIG Mistake!! This time I am taking it easy. I am planning on going back when teachers are suppose to (7 weeks post-op) The surgery nurse scheduled it so that I would have PLENTY of Recoup time before returning to teaching. I started walking 15 minutes outside am and pm slowly on Tuesday. Though I did something stupid this morning at 5:00 am (couldn't sleep). I decided to clean out the refrigerator of all the food that was put in before the surgery. Well, that set me back today. I was hurting. I have learned my lesson...

How much/far/often are you walking??

I walk in the morning after breakfast and again in the evening after dinner.
If I am feeling good, I'll go 1.5 miles. If not, I just goe less. On a good day, I get 3 miles +.

I have learned to feel my incision first and if there are any hard spots on it, I nap before my walk. I usually do feel a little more swollen after the walk.

If the nap doesn't reduce the hard spots, then I don't do the walk. Trial and error. I feel like I am getting the hang of what I need.

Basically, I need to walk and I need to nap.
I exercised a lot before surgery so I need it to keep me sane.

How much/far/often are you walking??

I made it to the lamp post! 1.5 houses down the block. It was very windy and cool last night. So I went. Got to the lamp post, almost in tears and then went back home. The kids and dh went all the way to the mailbox and back (about a block and half) before I ever even made it to the lamp post. It took me about 30 mins. Then it was off to bed with pain pills for a nap.

If its nice out again tonight ... I plan on going for another maybe further than the lamp post this time? It looks like the monsoon season may start early here.

Rose, you'll be down to the mailbox before you know it. Hang in there -- you're an inspiration for all the women just starting out of the house!
