Menopause and frustration

I'm 34. I had my TAH February 18, 2013 and I'm still not myself. I'm exhausted, I've gained weight, and I think I'm depressed...I'm not sure what to do, but at this point, I'd almost rather have lived with the pain (endometriosis) I'm not in HRT since I kept my right ovary for the sake of the "natural" hormones. I'm at a loss...just not sure what to do.

I tried to talk to my mom about all the things I felt and was going through and her response was...everyone goes through menopause, your not the only one and those woman seem to make it through and function fine. She doesn't get what surgically induced menopause does to a person, young or old. I'd much rather have gradually went through it like she did, but that would have been s painful option. All though, I did and still do feel my family is complete I still grieve that I will never have that choice again...on top of all the other challenges I have faced. My surgery was an emergent surgery, I came out of anesthesia from an exploratory lap surgery to be inform that without the hysterectomy, my fate was an ostomy because my bowels had adhesed to my female organs, luckily I had two obgyns and a general surgeon preform my surgery and saved my bowel issue, but knicked my bladder and rendered me incontinent for two weeks until my sensation of a full bladder came back! It has been a journey to say the least!!

Re: Menopause and frustration

It sounds like perhaps your ovary is not doing its job. You may want to talk to your doc about some hormone replacement therapy at this point. And absolutely surgical menopause is different. Our bodies are designed to go through the process over a period of years, not hours. You may also consider some counseling for your grief. We also have an "Aching Hearts" forum where women talk about losing their ability to choose to have children. I'm hoping you start feeling better soon.
