Post op hysterectomy: Surgery was May 20,2014

Hi everyone. I had my surgery May 20 around 9:30 a.m. I vaguely remember waking up in the recovery room, then being taken to my room via stretcher and lifted on to my bed. The surgery went well. My worst complaint physically wasn't so much pain from surgery, but the gas pain was incredible. I've heard that the gas introduced when they do a laparoscopic is sometimes absorbed through the bowels? Any way once I started passing gas I felt slightly better. I was surprised they only gave me regular Tylenol in hosp. I did try codeine a couple of times, but made me hallucinate! I went home after one night in hospital. I have been surprised at how this actually hasn't been so bad so far, cross my fingers. I am taking a T3 at night and first thing in the a.m., but then just reg Tylenol during the day. I find most of my pain is superficial, kind of like little pokey pains around the incisions.. I find I feel ok and am walking around the house and then whammo, I feel very tired and need to lay down. So that's about it so far. Really my over all pain level has been 3/10 mostly. So now I am looking forward to recovering and living free of the torture my fibroids put me through!! Cheers Ladies.

Re: Post op. Surg was May 20,2014

Hi! I, too, had my surgery on May 20, 2014, so am now on Day 5. I had a total vaginal hysterectomy with bladder lift ad rectocele removal. Surgery went well and I spent one night in the hospital. Post-op pain level never got above 3, and usually less than that. The worst pain was when my Dr. removed the packing the morning after surgery (that was NO FUN!) Recovering at home nicely now. No narcotic pain meds needed anymore, but I am still taking one Vicodin at bedtime just because I think it helps me sleep more soundly and comfortably. Energy level pretty good, but, like you, I hit the wall after a couple hours of being up and about. Short naps or rests help. It is difficult for me to sit still for long, so I sometimes have to force myself to take breaks from activity. I have been to the grocery store by myself, and today went car shopping for 2 hours! Also went out for coffee with friends 2 days post-op. (my husband drove me on that adventure) Now I am driving with no problem. Very, very light bleeding still, but that's about it. I'm glad you are doing well, too! Keep healing well!
