Keeping one ovary and migraines

Hi all!

I sit here at 1:50 am with my horrible monthly migraine. Of course no medication will ease it, so I just live with it wishing I could sleep through it. But, it's too painful for sleep, not to mention the nausea, pressure, and tension.

So, as I ponder the "why's" and "what can I do's" for feeling so bad I thought I'd ask all of you.....

Has anyone kept one ovary and had their migraines improve?? I've read several accounts where ladies have had both ovaries removed and found relief. I'm not sure whether I will be keeping one ovary or having them both removed. It will depend upon what sort of condition they are in when he gets in there.

Thanks all!!!

Marianne

hormonal migraines

I feel for you, dear sister! I can pretty much count on having a bout with a migraine each month. I have my hormones to thank I hope that my TAH will get rid of them forever. In the meantime, I have *some* favorable results with an icepack on the back of my neck, and a strong cup of coffee. Try it with Between the ice chilling and constricting the blood and vessels, and the caffeine going after the migraine chemically, I get some relief. I hope this helps.

Keeping one ovary and migraines

I'm sorry your suffering dear Marianne...those migraines are so horrible. I'm hoping they are hormonal and I will be seeing the last of them along with AF. The only thing that ever helped mine were muscle relaxers. I pray for the Lord to ease your suffering.

Luv, hugs & prayers,

Mich

Keeping one ovary and migraines

I too suffered monthly migraines. I kept both of my ovaries. I had a whopping migraine a week after my surgery and (knock on wood) haven't had one since. Have you tried Imitrex for your migraines. That's what I take and it provides releif in about an hour. Hope you find some relief...

No let-up

Interesting question!

I had started wondering myself as I have had to take my migraine-meds thrice after my operation, which is pretty unusual for me.

I had a SAH, keeping both ovaries, and my migraine has always been offset by several factors in combination; onset of my period, too little sleep, too much drink etc.

Perhaps the operation and the recovery was so stressful to my system as to trigger migraine-headaches in itself?

Keeping one ovary and migraines

Thanks so much everyone for your prayers, suggestions and support.

I so want to take Imitrex when I get these, but my doc says my high blood pressure won't allow me to. <sigh>

I was going to keep one ovary if at all possible, but now I'm scared that these headaches won't stop if I do. I will talk to my surgeon.

I'm still in pain today, but so much better than last night. Thanks again wonderful sisters. I don't know what I do without this site!
