Tunneling wound will not heal.

I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer in September last year. They did a hysterectomy on me on November 6. Then 8 days later, the incision where they took out my uterus became infected. All the stitches were taken out and I treated the area as an open wound. I had 2 tunnelling wounds. The one that went up eventually came down and filled in. But I have tunneling wound that is 2 inches deep and although I pack it 2 times a day with wet/dry gauze, it is not healing. It has been over 7 months. I am finally going to a wound clinic and I am anxious to see what they can do for me. I am wondering if anyone here has gone through anything similar.

Re: Tunneling wound will not heal.

I have not personally dealt with this, but I am surprised it has taken this long to send you to wound center. Wet to dry dressings are "old school" these days at wound centers!! I cannot tell you exactly what they will do, but want to encourage you that there are tons of options, from ointments and creams to special gauzes, the whole works, and i have seen great things come of the nastiest of wounds, some in very short periods of time. Follow their direction and hang in there!! If youncan pack your own wound, it typically doesnt get any worse than that. Good luck!!
