Can't wear clothes

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I've been reading and haven't yet found the answer to my question. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since my Davinchy surgery. Had everything out including ovaries. The surgery went very well and not much pain after.

My issue is that I can't wear clothes! The only thing I can wear since surgery is loose dresses and grannie panties. Even yoga pants two sizes too big hurt my tummy after about 20 minutes. I can wear elastic only if it's right under my bra strap. Anything lower irritates my abdomen.

I'm a size 6 normally and bought some XL maternity leggings and those hurt after 2 hours. Then I was in pain for the next two days with swollen belly. I thought by now I would at least be able to wear some sweat pants. Sometimes even the granny panties irritate.

I'm paranoid that I will never wear regular clothes again. Anyone else have this happen and then get better??

Re: Can't wear clothes

I am right with you. I am 20 days post-op and have been wearing the same dress almost every day. I wear low hipster underwear so that hasn't been an issue for me. Yesterday, I thought I'd switch it up and wear pants (low rise jeans) and just had to laugh. I certainly couldn't button them but they were loose on my legs. I was just released from bed rest on Friday and I certainly overdid it this weekend. I had no clue that overdoing it meant getting my hair done and having lunch... I"m laying low today because my stomach is so big and uncomfortable. Hope you get better soon! It is certainly a learning process....

Re: Can't wear clothes

I can't even wear my low underwear. Everything has to be extremely loose. I'm afraid that my undies are going to fall off sometimes because they are so loose! I have even lost a few pounds since surgery. It's not like I can't fit into the clothes. They just don't feel good. This has to be temporary right?

Re: Can't wear clothes

I wear dresses every day since surgery and low bikini undies...can't even imagine pants at this point. Worried when I go back to work in 3 weeks if I can even wear pants...I feel your pain!

Re: Can't wear clothes

I too wear sresses daily and if possible, no undies.
It is temporary. You have to rememebr all the incisions inside that you cannot see. You have a lot going on and healing.
I had abdominal, so I can see and have a visual reminder what was done. i often wonder if the other prceedures dont quite give the visual/mental impact that your organs were removed, moved around, cut and rearranged! You natually have internal swelling and irritation as healing takes place and the intestines and such settle in to their new places left empt when the uterus was removed.
Just try to stay comfortable and rest!

Re: Can't wear clothes

Thank you all for the comments. I guess this is normal. It's just that so many others say they are wearing sweats right after surgery. We are all different. I'll just stay in my dresses for now.

I do opt out of undies when I can. I'm still having a bit of spotting though, so I only feel I can go without when I'm in bed.

Everything does feel so strange inside. I can't imagine those going back to work at 2 weeks. I could barely go to the doctor at that time.

Re: Can't wear clothes

Fellow dress wearer here as well. Actually, if I do not have to go to an appt., I wear hubbies oversized T shirts and no panties at home. Thankfully I have a couple of summer dresses and some light flowy skirts I can wear as well if I have to make a trek into public. I have come to accept that pants are not in my future anytime soon.

Re: Can't wear clothes

I was right there with you. I could only wear dresses, and even granny panties bothered me. At about 5 weeks it really eased. (I have a 5 inch vertical incision). I still prefer dresses (and going commando) when at home.
Before the 5th week I also found pants (like leggings) were more comfy than pants (like sweat pants or pjs) that had an elastic waist. Maybe the stretch in the legs, waist, butt was keeping them on more comfortably than just the tight waistband.
All the best to you as you recover.
