Concerned about Blood Clot

I had an abdominal hysterectomy on the 22 it was very difficult was in hospital four days imobile for two and on heparin... so now I am home not supposed to do much I get up and walk a little... but I have this strange pain in my foot this morning right at the ankle like a dull throb worse when I bend it. It isn't swollen may be a bit warm and I have little purplish veins that I don't remember having before.. maybe I am over reacting. I know I am at risk for clots but I am worried this is the starting of something or not... I have made it through the morning with no pain killers but am going to have to break down... Has anyone else had this? I had a really difficult surgery and am scared I am not out of the woods yet...

Re: Concerned about Blod Clot

First, It's only been 6 days-don't be afraid to take the pain killers if you need them. You don't get extra points for holding out. Your body heals better when it's not in pain.

Second, I think you should call the doctor if you are concerned it might be a clot. A clot is not something to mess around with. Better to check it and and be told it's nothing than wish you had called. Any suspicion of a clot-I would call to be sure.

Re: Concerned about Blod Clot

I did think and try to call just to be sure and to book my follow up but i get a message that due to staffing issues they cant answer and abunch of options for doctors or cancelling appts. Nothing for patients or booking appointments. Don't want to go and have to sit at emergency so will likely just wait it out... but I was told to call him to find out if he used dissolvable stitches or not (discharge nurse was not sure) and they should be removed soon. Will try again tomorrow...

Re: Concerned about Blod Clot

Well---the reason blood clots in the legs are bad is bacause they can travel to the lung and kill you. So get through to someone, somehow, or go to the ER. I know its a nuisance but its very serious, not just a leg pain. Please don't wait on it. Let us know what happens.

((skater1908))

If you're at risk for blood clots and suspect you may have one, then you cannot "wait it out", I'm afraid. As ((greyown)) says, if you can't get through to anyone then please go to the ER immediately ~ if you've not already done so. Will you let us know what you find out?

Take good care!
