Stressed out big time!

Hi Everyone:

Just had to vent. Sorry!

I have an TAH on Oct. 25th. with a very long vertical incision due to the size of the fibroid tumor.

I went to work today and found out our company is closing down. I have been offered a job 150 miles away and would have to relocate. I would have to be there by Dec. 17th. Which puts me at about the 7 week point.

I don't have much choice, I need the job and the insurance.

Any suggestions on how to cope with this?? I am also coping with a semi-invalid Mother, who is not dealing well with my having to be gone. I have been with her and took care of her everynight. Having someone else with her is really upsetting her. I know I need to be trying to stay calm and not get too stressed out before major surgery. But how can I???

We appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks so much,
Leola

Stressed out big time!

Hi Leola

I went back to work today at the seven week post op point, though I had an abdominal incision and not a vertical one. Have you asked your doctor whether or not going back to work at seven weeks will be okay with your type of surgery?

As for your mother, is there another family member close by that can help out?

I wish I had the magic answers for you, as you have a lot on your plate. Best wishes, and lots of s

Stressed out big time!

Hiya Leola! Sorry you are feeling so stressed out. I'd say, worry about what you can control, and that which you can't, will have to slide.

My myomectomies were a horizontal incision, but my TAH was vertical because of the widespread locations of my fibroids. The type of incision made no difference in my healing, I feel. Half my staples stayed in longer, but otherwise, everything else went the same as my previous gyn surgeries. I returned to work after 6 weeks.

You are fortunate to have been offered another job so quickly, and I imagine my only advice in that arena would be to explain the situation to the Human Resources contact, and to hire someone to do all the moving! (I moved 8 weeks post op) Relocating in and of itself is stressful yet exciting (I think) and continue to concentrate on the positives of this change.

As for your mother, that is a tougher nut to crack. Are other family members available? Since Mom's (I believe) truly only want what is best for is, discussing all your concerns and upcoming changes, and yes even your fears with her, could be liberating for both of you.

In the meantime, brew yourself a cup of mint green tea, watch a chick flick, and remember to take time for yourself. It's so very natural to be stressed out.

Good luck in all you face!
