LSH?? Do we choose or do the doctors?

Well said Mary, I posted one on this and later read yours, you said it much better than I did. Plus I didn't deal with fibroids just the decision and had no idea fibroids could get the size of a football. I did hear my doctor did a LSH on a women who's other doctor said the fibroid was too big. But how big, I don't know. A second opinion on any surgery is a must I feel.

gigi, I am glad that you mention the size of your uterus also. Not only does the fibroids play a factor so to does the size of your uterus and what they may find when they get in there. I would hate to sign only for a LAH and the dr needed permission to do a TAH because they found something else wrong inside. I went to consult with a gyn/onc and a general surgeon prior to my surgery. So I was well informed and three dr's were in agreement what was best for my situation. Healing may take longer on a TAH but what is best for you depends on your case and the dr. Good luck.

LSH?? Do we choose or do the doctors?

I has LSH/LSO. My doctor went in blind,as nothing showed on the pelvic US or the numerous cat scans other than an enlarged uterus and "lobules" on the left ovary. Drs intent was to remove uterus and left ovary. I also told him that in the event that he felt for whatever reason that he would have to go back in the next 20 years to remove the right ovary to do so because he wasnt getting a second showing. As it turned out there was a cyst on left ovary and lots of endo ( I dont have all the details until my post op on the 16th) The way the dr explained it to me was that the tool that they used to take the uterus out of the small incision was like a grinder and it would make it all small enough to remove. Recovery has been a breeze compared to pre op.

LSH?? Do we choose or do the doctors?

Hi ladies!

Thanks for your input! My doctor is the one that suggested the LSH, and my pre-op isn't until May 2 so I am hoping that she is sticking with LSH. I do appreciate the suggestion to sign for another type of surgery just in case they find more and need to switch!! I never thought of that. I have been dealing with hopefully my second to last visit from Aunt Flo, and CAN'T WAIT to get my hyster over & done with! I would much rather be dealing with the pain from surgery, than the pain I feel now!! I have heard from people in my family that the LSH worked really well for them also! Anymore experiences with the LSH would be appreciated by me!

LSH?? Do we choose or do the doctors?

Shers,

I had an LSH on March 20th and feel fantastic!!

I was wheeled into the OR at 7:15, was out by 9:30 and home by 12:00 PM. The pain was minimal. I am a big baby when it comes to pain, and was really dreading it. I could not believe how well it all went. I had a good size cyst in my left ovary, fibroids and adenomyosis.

I feel better now than I have in years. I hope all goes well with you.

Kim
