Oh no-scratchy throat
I'm scheduled for Laproscopic removal of uterus on Thursday and I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. I was all over the place this weekend. Will a small cold postpone surgery?

Re: Oh no-scratchy throat
Ooh! Im going through the same thing. Mine started coming on last Friday. Been trying to nurse through it because there is no way Im having this surgery cancelled. Not after all this preparation and getting worked up. Ive decided that if its not completely gone, which it wont be cause my surgery is first thing in the morning, Im going to put on my best chipper attitude and fake it until they put me under! Ill be ok unless I start sniffling and sneezing. But even then, we could say its just cold in the hospital. I wonder though, what kind of cold you would have to have for them to stop the surgery? Right now I have a very slight runny nose but I sound more congested than anything.

Re: Oh no-scratchy throat
Pretty much, they are looking for whether you can still breathe through your nose as well as your mouth. If you're heavily congested, they may not want to sedate you. Also, if you have immune problems to start with, they won't want to operate when you're already sick.

The wonders of the neti-pot! It's gotten rid of my scratchy throat and although I'm not 100%, I think I'll be okay tomorrow.

Re: Oh no-scratchy throat
Amazing - I was just going to open a thread about having surgery on 11/01 and I am getting sick. I see many of us are in the same boat. I had my pre-surgery appt yesterday and was told that a simple cold would be okay - but surgery would be cancelled if there is lots of congestion.
Yesterday I bought Vitamin C, those menthol cough drops, and something discusting called Zicam. Beyond that, there is nothing that I can do to help myself besides rest.
Really trying not to stress about it, because what will be will be. I am ready to have it done and get on with life, but God may have other plans. And I just have to trust him and give him control.
Feel better, friends! Let me know how you are all doing.

Re: Oh no-scratchy throat
I am 8 days post-op and just want to give some advice. First, get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, take your vitamins and eat healthy. Kick that cold's rearend. You want to be healthy during surgery. I wouldn't suggest hiding the fact your are not feeling well. Be sure not to have a fever. Besides they will check your temperature a couple times before surgery. As long as you are fever free and not congested you should be okay. Please take care of yourself. Keep us posted!

Re: Oh no-scratchy throat
I had a sore throat on Wed, thought it was allergies, woke up Thur with a fever and ear ache. Called the Dr and he started me on Cipro. Sat and Sun I was really sick and was very worried about surgery on Mon AM. I called Dr at home Sun afternoon to see what he had to say. He said it is ultimately up to the anesthestiolgy guy but that basically as long as I was not running a fever and my white cell count was ok we would go ahead. I did not have a fever and they did not check my blood and Mon AM they went thru with it.... seems like all is okay, have stayed on Cipro for the "ear infection" and sure it is probably helpful to combat any other stuff that may have wanted to pop up.

Re: Oh no-scratchy throat
I have tried both Zicam and Airborne in the past 2 days - Airborne is much easier going down for me.

Re: Oh no-scratchy throat
I turned into a germaphobe prior to my surgery, I had waited 9 weeks for my appt. and I had been in pain so long, that I did not want anything messing it up! I carried antibacterial hand cleanser with me when I went out. 2 weeks before my surgery I started to eat Halls Vitamin C drops. 1 week prior I started to use Zicam mouth spray 2X a day(I know it taste disgusting). I also stayed away from restaurants etc. the week leading up to my surgery. Just be careful not to use any supplements with certain herbs or vitamins such as echinacea for 2 weeks leading up to your surgery.
