Worried . . .

I had my left ovary, cervix and what was left of my uterus removed on September 25th. I was treated for an infection (possibly cellulitis in the vaginal cuff) and finished my antibiotics earlier this week. I was finally feeling fantastic -- no pain, my spotting had diminished to a light yellow discharge. I almost felt back to normal. Then last night my daughter let out a blood curdling scream and I moved a litte quicker than I should have. About an hour later I had a lot of pulling pains on the right side (not the left where my ovary was removed) and I started spotting red/pink again. I was pretty uncomfortable throughout the night and now I can "feel" the vaginal cuff. I don't know how to explain it other than that I'm very aware of the cuff area and it feels almost painful but not quite. When I do a kegal I get that pulling pain on the right again, almost like there's a connection between the cuff and the right side of my abdomen.

I called my doctor's office and spoke with the nurse and she said as long as I don't have a flow like a period she thinks I can just monitor it from home. She said I could have pulled something and the fact that I may have had cellulitis going on could explain the sensation in the vaginal cuff.

She asked me whether I felt up there and at that point I hadn't, but of course when I got off the phone with her I did go ahead and do that and I can't feel anything amiss.

I'm panicking thinking maybe something is prolapsing or something. I am very paranoid about prolapse issues, so that's not helping. For those of you who've had issues with your stitches or your vaginal cuff healing, can you tell me what it felt like? The cuff isn't painful per se, I'm just very aware of it if that makes sense. For those who've had prolapse, what did that feel like?

I'm scheduled to see my doctor next Friday and she did tell me to call the on-call doctor over the weekend if I feel worse or if my symptoms change.

Any thoughts ladies? Thanks.

We are all different, and 2 women with the exact same symptoms, may have completely different causes.

I know that, for at least 5-6 months after my surgery, I was very aware of my vaginal cuff......sort of a pulling sensation, ever since my 6 week postop pelvic exam. Of course, I was just certain that it was adhered to something. Then, the feelings went away, never to return (Thank God!).

It is good, though, that you are listening to your body and discussing this with your physician. I wish I could offer up some sort of info to give you peace of mind, but believe that will not come....entirely....for you until after a visit to your doc.

Take care............s....Deb

Thanks for your reply. I did go in and see the nurse practitioner this afternoon and she did a vaginal exam. Fortunately everything looks good, the cuff is all intact and she saw no signs of prolapse or anything like that. She did see a small trickle of blood near the cuff and she thinks I may have strained the stitches when I jumped up to see what was wrong with my daughter last night.

I'm very relieved to say the least!

It's comforting to know that you, too, were also very aware of your cuff for a while after your surgery.

Thanks again for your post.

Glad to hear you don't have to wait a week to see if somethings wrong.

Rest easy this weekend! If you did stress stitches, you should be extra careful of what you do until your body's healing can replace the relaxed stitch support.

Thanks, Julie. The NP did tell me absolutely no lifting and obviously no sex yet (not that I'm in any hurry!). I plan to take it very easy until I see my doctor again next week.

Sex? Ha. I hope you laugh at this because I am now.

A week ago when Dr cleared me she said I was cleared to have sex and my response was 'thats alright'. I wasn't hmmm really ready to consider it and am still a little sore at spots on my belly. A week later, now I'm thinking maybe.....
