Is there a Dr in the house??? A sympathetic one?
I was scheduled for my pre-op yesterday and my Dr was going over all the "things" that could go wrong-as I am aware they have to do.She was so nonscelant (sp?) about the whole procedure just like I was going in for a routine exam or something. I'm not expecting her world to be crashing around her as I feel like mine is right now but a little bit of reassurance would have been nice. Maybe I am the only one that feels this way but she is going to see the most intimate parts of me not to mention taking it all out. I just feel like maybe a "it will be ok" or "I understand this is a BIG deal" anything?????? Nothing.
As I left the office, just prior to going to hospital to preregister, I was to set up my post op appointment with her and was told she would be on vacation during this time but I could see another doctor (one that I have not seen before and does not know anything about my history, much less my surgery) I politely said, No, and felt like since she was the one to do the sugery I would rather see her. That pushed my appointment to 02/08-over 3 weeks before I would be able to see her after my surgery this Friday!
Maybe I am being overly "nervous" but do I have a point here? Just really scared and don't feel like I'm getting much support from the one person who can "make me" or "break me" so to speak-
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a Dr in the house??? A sympathetic one?
Hi Maka,
I can relate. When I went in for my consultation about my ultrasound, my Dr. blurted out I had two large fibroids and I would need a TAH with a bladder sling. Oh...and I hadn't even taken a seat yet upon entering her office!! From there, I felt "foggy" to whatever she was saying. Like it wasn't ME sitting there and it was someone else's nightmare. I had never had a surgery and I had had normal pap smears for years and then a HYSTERECTOMY!!!!! Wow.. I was in shock!! Also, she said I would have to schedule my surgery around her vacation to Mexico!!
I left her office crying and decided to get a 2nd opinion. He suggested a LSH with no bladder sling.
I can suggest calling your Dr. to go over your surgery or get a 2nd opinion, if it would make you feel better.
Best wishes,
Mary

Sounds like she needs to work on her bedside manner. My gyn. I think, is the same way. I haven't seen him for my pre-op yet. But when he was telling me I needed a hysterectomy. I was like, What?!?! He just acted like it was no big deal. He's was going on about I was finished having children and I wouldn't have a period anymore. Like that was all there is too it. He is taking out bodyparts. They are mine! It is a big deal and a little babying on the drs part would be nice. An "it will be ok" would be much appreciated by me. I guess, doctors do this so much it doesn't seem like a big deal to them. Awwww.... well, we will make it. With or without the babying. But it sure would be nice.
If you are confident in her skills as a dr., then I think everything will be ok. Good luck with your surgery.
