Intercourse before six weeks?

Hi, I am cleared for sex at the 3 week mark per my doc. I had LSH. So......I'll have to let you know if it goes okay next week.

Intercourse before six weeks?

Are you considering having intercourse before you are released or have you already done so? If you have not, please don't take that risk. If you have done so, please let your doctor know so your doctor can determine if you need to be seen or not.

There are so many negative thing that can occur if you resume intimacy before you are cleared by your doctor. Issues such as torn stitches, delayed healing, infection, permanent injury, re-hospitalization, and the list goes on.

Here are some important resources to read about post-op libido and resuming intimacy:

Sex - Do I Really Have to Wait Six Weeks?

Sex - Post-Op Libido and Sexual Activities

Post-Op Sex Checkpoint

I hope these help! Best wishes for the remainder of your recovery!

re: Intercourse before six weeks?

I had my post op appointment with the surgeon at four weeks and I'm cleared for any activity including intercourse. I had a TAH/BSO. He said all is healed.

Intercourse before six weeks?

Hi!

There are women who have had sex before the six week mark, with and without the doctor's clearance, and have been okay...but there are also women who have had sex and not been okay. I hope you won't risk your recovery. Get checked by your doctor as that is the only person who can determine if you are healed well enough for any kind of sexual activity. This is just one of many instances when relying on the experiences of others could have very bad consequences as (((Weiser))) pointed out in her reply. There are threads on the message boards of Sisters who have torn out the vaginal cuff and had to go back in for repair surgery which, of course, sets back the recovery.

I hope all early post-op Sisters will read the links (((Weiser))) shared and heed that important information, along with the orders given by their doctors. If your doctor hasn't told you what is and is not okay, please call and ask.

Intercourse before six weeks?

Just to let you know sometimes it takes longer, I went for my 6 week check-up and my doc said "it's healing well but slowly and we don't want any bleeding or vaginal cuff separation so nothing inside for another 3 to 4 weeks". DH and I are both in agreement to go the extra 4 (making it 10 since our last encounter). He did clear me for some external so we can do some things.

Intercourse before six weeks?

If you had your cervix removed there is a 'cuff' incision that needs to heal, and that takes time. I had to wait atleast 9 weeks for slow healing. Now at 11 weeks I am still apprehensive and so far have attempted once but I was nervous so limited penetration. DH is being very patient. I figure there is plenty of time for intercourse in the future, and I can take care of him safely when needed.
I can tell my overies are now back to their fickle schedule too.
Please be patient...it will pay off in the long run as I have heard horror stories from those whom where not.

Intercourse before six weeks?

I had my 1 week po today and my Dr. reminded me "NOTHING IN THE VAGINA FOR 6 WEEKS-until after she had done a pelvic to determine. She told me about a case where her patient didn't wait- she ended up back in the hospital, new stitches and on iv antibiotics- she cleared me for "non-penatration" sex. Please ask your Doctor what is right for you. I would hate to see you back in the hospital and in pain.
