cath bag ughhhhhhhh!
Hi everyone..
I went in Friday the 7th to have a TAH and a BSO if needed because of dysplasia. Luckly I was able to keep both tubes and ovaries. But when my doctoer went in my bladder had attached itself to my old c-section scar from 6 years ago, so I ended up having to have some holes repaired in my bladder.
I came home after 5 days in the hospital with a cath bag and it will hopefully be removed in 10 days. I am about to go crazy though. I constantly feel like I have to pee, it doesnt matter if i am sitting, standind or laying down. The doctor gave me some medicane that works as an alagesic in the urinary tract system but it turns my urine a deep rusty orange color and today the feeling of having to go is getting to be too much!
I will admit I have prolly been up too much since I got out the hospital but I live in Slidell, La and we are still in a FEMA trailer and I have so much to do yet. Like alot of women who have posted i too cant stand to be down in the bed.
Has anyone else come home with a cath bag because of their bladder. I need some advise if so!!!
Thanks,
Colette

cath bag ughhhhhhhh!
Hi Rooster,
I had my surgery on the 6th. I came home on the 9th with a cath bag, and went to office to have remove on the 11th. I went home and still could not pee so had to rush back to office and they were either going to put the bag back or I could self cath. I have to say i kinda wanted the bag back, but my mother in law convinced me along with the nurse to learn on my own, so I could at least try to keep going on my own. It hurts and it is frustrating and I wish I had the bag back (the pain was less) So I go back on Wed. for a check, I hope I can go on my own by then, but they say they don't know. Wait and See. Lots of healing needed they said. I wish you the best and hope you heal soon.

cath bag ughhhhhhhh!
Dear Colette,
I also had damage to my bladder after surgery and I was sent home with "the bag". The way that it was explained to me was that the catheter can move around and cause that sensation in the bladder and urethra that makes the body say I feel the urge and need to pee. I did not like the way the nurses taped the tubing to my leg so I would let them tape it and then change it when they left! I REALLY wanted my bag gone, but After a while I got used to it. What choice do we have . after a while I was able to joke about it. I would tell my DH during a good part in a movie that "I'm peeing right now and you don't have to pause the movie for me to go to the bathroom!
I am so sorry that you are still in a FEMA trailer. I hope you will be home soon!

i also had bladder repair because of adhesions and went home with the cath for 9days, very annoying. he gave me a bladder spasm medicine that really helped with the feeling like you have to go. you could call your dr if you aren't already on a bladder spasm medicine and see if he can give it to you.

cath bag ughhhhhhhh!
Hi Everyone...
Thank you to all the sisters who replied to my post. Well here's the update.. I called my doctor this afternoon to tell him what was going on and he said it could be my bag was clogged or I had a UTI. Both sounded horriable to have to deal with!!! The doc did say if it felt worse to go to ER and have them check the cath for a blockage or remove and insert a new cath and do a urine test for UTI.
Well we just spent 3 hours at ER and the good news is i do NOT have a UTI. I am on the medicane for the spasm already, so they flushed out my cath and changed out the bag to something like a man would wear around his leg under his pants!! At least they was able to get my cath to drain alot of urine and i do feel better.
So they finally decided that it was spasms and I was trying to do too much. I will admit I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and walked alot!! My 23 yo DB/F ....(dear boyfriend)...has been on my butt about doing too much. I guess I hate to admit when he's right!!!
Thanks again for all who replied. Our lives haven't been the same since Hurricane Katrina, but I refuse to be beat down. I am a survivor!!!!
God Bless You all and good luck in your own recovery!!!
Love,
Colette
