Epidural??

Just wondered if anyone has had or requested an epidural for the surgery? A nurse friend of mine suggested it.

I had a combination

I had an epidural AND general anesthesia. The reason for having both was so that less of each kind of drug could be used. An epidural alone would have been available if cancer had not been suspected and the incision so long. The epidural was left in after surgery for pain management.

Epidural??

Hi,

Although I did not request nor have an epidural with this surgery, I did have one years ago with my c-section.

I personally was not fond of the epidural but many sisters here say it is the way to go.

I am sure they will be along soon to share their experience with you.

Epidural??

Hi Carridee

Like Jocelyn I also had both a general and an epidural. The general was a "twilight" general, so was not under as deeply with a full general. The epidural was totally for post op pain management. It was left in for 48 hours post op and I would do it again the same way in a heartbeat. Recovery for me was just so smooth and I put it down to the fact that I got through those first 24-48 hours pain free. Nurses got me up, epidural and all, for a short walk and to sit a while. The very best part about the epidural for me? No barfing whatsoever.

Hope this has helped you somewhat.

Regards

Epidural??

I had an epidural for a d&c a few years ago, a general for my TAH. At my pre op I was told the epidural was not an option this time.

Before you get your mind set on a certain type of anesthesia you should find out from your DR what your options are.

Epidural??

OK ladies, I'm a little confused. What exactly IS an epidural? I thought it totally numbed a person from thye waist down, but some are saying they could get up and walk with assistance. Thanks
