Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Sep 27, 2015
Hi mary,
First off I want to say I hope everything goes well. I have a few friends who have had total radical hysterectomies. They said the recovery for the first couple weeks is tiresome. However after that they were good.

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Sep 27, 2015
Good Morning Sisters!
My name is Naimah! I'm a 34 year old wife & mother of two. I am scheduled to have a Robotic LAVH (keeping the ovaries) on Sept. 30.
For years, I've suffered from heavy bleeding during my periods. 3 months ago, I was in the hospital for "a Acute Blood Loss Anemia." I had four blood transfusions, two intravenous iron therapies, and a D&C. That didn't help much since I have been bleeding since July 24.😠
I'm extremely nervous about the surgery. My most concern is having the organs removed through my vagina. My kids weren't delivered that way (both c-sections).😟
I'm praying for a speedy recovery with no complications. Blessings to ALL of HysterSisters. ❤

Hi Shannon, I am wishing you well on your surgery. I suggest having some ice packs on hand for swelling in the perineum, a peri bottle to clean yourself after using the toilet and follow your post op restrictions carefully because you will have a lot of internal healing to do. I also want to invite you to post questions on our Pelvic Floor and Bladder Issues Forum

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Sep 27, 2015
Hi! My name is Becky and my hysterectomy is next Tues 29th..
I've had issues off and on for 6yrs and this last year has been the worst. I've had to have 2 transfusions within 2 months of each other due to heavy bleeding from fibroids and my uterus is the size of a 15wk pregnancy I have no cancer in my family history and my pap and cervix came back clear as well as my mammogram. I am having my uterus, fallopian tubes removed but am questioning whether to remove my cervix.
Please give me your opinions on keeping my cervix or not. I am very torn on what to do! Thanks!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Sep 27, 2015
I'm Pam in Missouri, and I'm having a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy on Tuesday due to abnormal bleeding, a large uterus, and large fibroids. Doc says I'm already in menopause - I didn't know since I've still had bleeding and had none of the expected hot flashes. Concern is that there's cancer causing this, so doc recommended TAH.
My worries are cancer risk, getting tired of taking it easy and overdoing things, and how difficult helping to care for me could be for my daughter who has non-stop migraines. I usually care for her, and now she'll have to do things that make her headaches worse. Spent the last month trying to get everything ready, but not everything can be done in advance!
It will be good to be able to visit with all of you during recovery, though, and share tips, experiences, and support!

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Sep 27, 2015
Hello,
My name is Tracey from Illinois. I am 48 years old. I'm scheduled to have a total hysterectomy including my ovaries on October 1st. I've had an ablation three years ago that did not work. I have fibriods and recently hemorrhagic cysts. I just want to be pain free. Mother Nature has gifted me one last painful period to get thru. I am nervous but look forward to putting this all behind me. Sending prayers and positive thoughts to each of you.

Hi all,
Brandi from Texas here! Scheduled for Laparoscopic hysterectomy on Wednesday 9/30. Scared out of my mind. I have had 3 C-sections, and a D&C and the Dr found multiple polyps in the uterus. The ovaries are staying (unless she sees any sign of cancer). I have 3 kids, one of them being a rambunctious 3 year old. I will be in the hospital 1-2 days, and am worrying how my family will hold up without me. (BTW I'm a total control freak!)

So sorry you're facing all of this. For issues specific to your diagnosis and journey, I did want to invite you to check out our Cancer Concerns forum as well, if you'd like. There's lots of great information as well as experienced ladies who'll help however they can. I trust your surgeon is a gynecological oncologist? They are the experts, and we strongly recommend consulting one where warranted.
As for the physical restrictions, yes, it's important to follow instructions as you only get one chance to heal properly. But, this is only temporary, and you'll be able to settle back into things. The important thing is to listen to your body and please don't overdo it.
Sending hugs and positive thoughts to you and all others here today. You CAN do this!
