For the Ladies who retained their Ovaries

i have a sex-related question: are you still able to self-lubricate during intercourse? i've read that women who are menopausal (and/or those who have their ovaries removed for medical reasons) have a problem with vaginal dryness. i'm just wondering if the same is true for uterus and cervix removal, but retaining the ovaries. i guess when i hear things like the vagina gets "stitched shut" i wonder how the lubrication could enter the vaginal area? obviously, human anatomy was NOT my major course of study...

thanks all
angela

For the Ladies who retained their Ovaries

Hi Missanj,

I haven't had any trouble with lubrication.
For the first few tries after getting the ok from the doctor we used a bit of ky jel just to be sure, but I found it rather messy and didn't like it. I've found that if we spend alot of time "warming up" there is NO lack whatsoever.
I don't know exactly how this works , I didn't study anatomy either - my guess is that there must be alot of glands and pours that are inside the vaginal tissues.

I hope you don't have any problems either!
best wishes,

For the Ladies who retained their Ovaries

Hi Angela,

I'm almost 4 mos. Post Op and HAVING NO TROUBLE!

http://apinet.tripod.com/events-fsd98-cap.html

When the vagina responds to sexual stimulation, its smooth muscle relaxes dilating the vaginal walls and increasing blood flow which brings lubrication to the area.

Dryness, from my understanding, is the result of homonal loss/imbalances. After my surgery, I found my ovaries did go into "shock" for about 6 weeks until they figured out, "HEY!! I still have to work!!" They then woke up and returned from their vacation. Haven't had problems since.

Hope this helps.

Ladies who retained their Ovaries

This is my first post so please bear with me. I had a vaginal hysterectomy in 05/03. I am having similar problems with lubrication also. However I also have a complete lack of libedo...which I thought was unusual for women who kept their ovaries. My OB/GYN thinks I need antidepressants due to lab reports showing me to have normal levels of hormones, my regular doctor says I'm not being stimulated enough by my husband, and my husband thinks it is all in my head. I am not depressed, have adequate stimulation, and I KNOW it is not in my head. I am scheduled to see another OB/GYN in 01/04 for a second (or third or fourth or how many ever it takes to make me normal again). As I am doing...you need to continue seeking answers until you find the one that helps you. Eyes are being opened in the medical community regarding womens' sexuality due to people like us who do not just settle for a lame answer. In my case, I was a normal, healthy, sexually responsive female before my surgery and now I'm not...seems to me that it would be pretty easy to see the trigger point there! Good luck and be persistant! I know that there other women out there who can help us with their experiences!
