Hi everyone,

I just got a message from my doctor yesterday that my insurance carrier denied my surgery. She is going to appeal and so am I. I just need a little input from people who have been there with their insurance company. This is so frustrating.

Hi, I'm sorry that you're having to deal with an appeal. I've heard that if your dr will send a letter to the insurance company detailing what all is wrong and what has been tried - it could speed up getting an approval.

Best wishes, I hope that you can get it all sorted out soon.

I hope this gets worked out for you as soon as possible.

I have battled various insurance companies over the past few years to cover things they didn't want to cover. I have found in my experience that if you have a doctor on their plan who puts in writing that it is 'medically necessary' for you to have this, your appeal is likely to be approved. Insurance companies have a very hard time justifying how they can disagree with a medical doctor who works for them.

I think often they say no just to see if people really want it. I encourage you to work with your doctor to do what is best for you. Please fight for your right to get proper healthcare.

Best wishes,
B

Thanks to all who responded to my email about my insurance woes. It has been changed from denied to pending. When I called the insurance company they told me that the removal of the uterus was approved but the removal of the ovaries was denied. I am having this surgery because of a strong family history of ovarian cancer.

I couldn't resist, I had to ask them if they were stupid.

My doctor is in touch with them and is sending them more information. I work with someone who used to work in the insurance industry and she says their first action is always to deny them. Then they see who will fight. Well, with me, they have a fighter on their hands and they are in for a long and bumpy ride.
