How long did you take pain meds?
Was just wondering how long everyone had taken their pain meds after surgery. I'm 10 days post op. I have been taking percocet for 8 days since leaving the castle. I've tried a couple days with only taking 1 or 2 during the day but end up miserable. So now I'm back to taking them 1 every 4 hours. Sometimes waiting an extra hour or 2 in between. The problem is the constipating effects. I'm being good taking my mirilax, mineral oil (ick),benefiber, prunes ect. I'm just wondering if I have a low pain tollerance. Any info is helpful. Thanks!

How long did you take pain meds?
I took my vicodin for about 5 days total. By the 4-5 days I had cut back to only take 1 instead of 2.
However, I was a very good princess and mainly just laid around and didn't lift a finger to do anything that didn't involve caring for myself.

How long did you take pain meds?
I took mine for 14 days post op. I'm down to Advil now, but I still have some left, just in case. I'm only 16 days post op now and I don't know if I'll need them or not.
I don't think I'm a whimp, I just needed more time to heal after having complications. Listen to your body, you'll know when it's time that you can start cutting back.
I don't miss the constipation though. Once you stop the pain meds, it starts to get better pretty quickly.

How long did you take pain meds?
I think by day 4 or 5 I wasn't taking any. Then a few days later I messed up and needed them again. By week 2 didn't need them. Now I'm on them again but it's because of a migraine ~ I don't have any surgery pain at all now. Maybe a twinge here or there. Or when I reach or lift something I shouldn't. But I'm sure you're not doing any of those things, right??
Everyone's different - a friend of mine used them every 4 hrs for almost 3 weeks. She has a very low pain tolerance. My thinking is: If you need 'em ~ take 'em! Best of luck to you.

How long did you take pain meds?
haha no I'm carefull not to lift anything. I had prolapse repairs and don't want to mess that up. I may try the vicodin next time. I wonder if that one is less constipating or powerful. I just need something to take the edge off the pain-down there . They gave me vicodin last week but I tried it and it did NOTHING for me. I think I just want all this to be over with and done.
Thanks for the replies sisters i'm glad you are all out there.

How long did you take pain meds?
I had Percocet that I eased off of after about 10 days, but to do it, I had to take Advil during the day and then the Percocet at night so I could sleep deeply enough to STAY asleep.
One thing that helped TONS in cutting back on the Percocet during the day was to ice my belly whenever I was sitting with my feet up. 20 minutes at a time, 3-4 times a day did wonders for reducing pain, swelling and that irritating itch when the nerves start to heal back across the incision line.
Also, tummy support helps for when you are getting vertical more and more - stops that "falling out" sensation. Ask your doc's office when you might be able to have support panties or a binder of some sort.
Hope you feel better soon!

How long did you take pain meds?
I took Percocets for 2 days until the rib pains eased up, I could handle the surgical pains, incisions and vaginal cuff, etc. The rib pain was so bad that just gasping for a breath I thought I would die, I literally couldn't breath due to the rib pain!! Took nothing else after that, not even a Tylenol. Still have a whole bottle of Percocets sitting in my cabinet, guess I can use one if I get a migraine.

How long did you take pain meds?
I was told by my doctor that the Percocet is constipating and to only take it if necessary. I was taking it every 4-6 hours while I was in the hospital. He said that I could take Motrin IB and that really helped. I usually took a Percocet at night to help me sleep and sometimes once during the day. Talk to your doctor if the pain continues. I only took the Percocet for about a week post-op.

How long did you take pain meds?
Hey J,
I too had surgery on 7.12.05 and was taking Percocet. But I had to switch to Darvacet since the P was making me nausious. Since today is my first day with only taking Advil. Maybe your Dr. could switch you to something stronger than Advil but not as constipating as Percocet. GOOD LUCK PRINCESS!!
