Question about bladder infection

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this question, but I would like some feedback. When you get a bladder infection, is it normal for the doctor to want you to come back in a month for a follow-up check? I have never had any kind of UTI, and no one I have talked to has had to go back. They all just take the antibiotics and that is it. Thanks a bunch in advance for your help! You are all the greatest!

Re: Question about bladder infection

i'm on antibiotics for a bladder infection after hysterectomy and repairs and my doctor wants to see me to check whether it has resolved, also 1 month after the initial appointment.

Re: Question about bladder infection

Judna, thanks for your reply. It has been 5 months since my surgery and I did not have any repairs done. I just didn't know if she might suspect something was going wrong and that was why she wanted me back in a month. Again, thank you for the response.

Re: Question about bladder infection

I am sure that the doctor wants you to come back so that she can look at another urine specimen. Most doctor's offices won't take a specimen for lab work unless you come in for an appointment.
There are also different kinds of bacteria that can cause a UTI; some are able to persist after a course of antibiotics (for various reasons.) A month sounds like a good time during which you can gauge your symptoms and then, even if the symptoms are gone, a specimen should remain clean.

Re: Question about bladder infection

I wouldn't worry the doctor is hiding anything, just being thorough. Feel better

Re: Question about bladder infection

I was also rechecked after having a bladder infection after my surgery. It happened about 14 days after surgery. It was my first infection also, never knew a UTI could cause so much misery!

Re: Question about bladder infection

I think your doctor is being very thorough! He should recheck to make sure you are okay. I've had one big continuing urinary strep infection since my surgery in July and it isn't being treated with enough antibiotics long enough. It keeps coming back. I wish I had your doctor. I'm the one who has to keep calling mine back. I know how miserable uti's are. I hope you feel better soon.
