Hello, first of all this site has answered so many of my questions.Thank you. I am scheduled for a TAH/?BSO on 2-15.Iam wondering about HRT.I have had a partial thyroidectomyand now take Synthroid every day.Does anyone know if this will affect me being able to take hormones? I am scheduled to meet with my doctor on2-13, he was sick when we made the decision last week to go ahead with the surgery. I am 26 years old( that is until Sunday) with 3 children ages2,4,and6. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks, Mistie

Mistie,
Wishing you the best and speedy recovery. Also good question about the synthroid. I also take it daily and haven't thought about what effect this could or will have. I'm writing it down to ask doc at next visit.
Take care,

Hi Mistie, first of all Good luck for your surgery! Hope that all goes smoothly for you. I'm not very sure about your history of taking Synthriod and HRT. It may be wise to consult with your Endocrinologist, and even have your GYN DR, speak with him regarding HRT. This way you'll get the best possible dosing for both, of your systems. It may be a little tricky at first, just because of your thyroid history, and your thyroid controls your metabolism, so it may need some fine tuning, at first, as your body adjusts to the HRT. Be patient, as most of us know, who are taking any HRT, it takes time to find the exact dose, that will be of the best benefit to you. Again, best wishes, you're almost there!!Roz

Hi Mistie. I had a TAH/BSO January 16 and just started using HRT last week. I have Hashimoto's Disease and take Armour thyroid replacement. I did a little research on Mary Shomon's thyroid web site before making my decision about the HRT. I'm using the Vivelle dot patch (estradiol) and although it may be a little early to tell, so far so good. Its important that you have your tsh levels checked after beginning HRT because you may need to tinker with your thyroid medication to achieve the right mix. It may also be helpful to read some of the older posts in the Hormone Jungle from women with thyroid problems. The thyroid site is located at:

Best of luck!

synthroid
Mistie,
I'm also a Synthroid addict. I saw my endocrinologist on the third of January and told him that I would be having a TAH on Feb 1. He asked if my ovaries were staying or going, I told him that we were planning to leave them unless there were problems. He just said to have my Ob/GYN contact him and he would help with the HRT if it was necessary. He reassured me that it would not be a big issue at all.
Best wishes!
