Post op adhesion pain...

Hi
I am new here. I had an abdominal hysterectomy (not sure what the abbreviation is for that) uterus only - about 23 years ago. I just recently had my fourth laproscopic lysis of adhesions. This time is very different - I am 14 days post op and having a lot of pain still. I went to the doctor yesterday for a post op check and he seemed stumped. Originally my pain was in the lower left quad and felt like ovarian pain but an ultrasound showed nothing obvious. Since I have had adhesions before it was assumed that what this was and so I went in for a scope. There was nothing on the left side but there was a large mass of adhesions on the right side that he was able to cut loose. Anyway the surgery pain seems to be healing but the original pain is still there and worse! The surgeon said yesterday (not my gyn) that it could possibly be nerve pain and gave me nuerontin to take. It did seem a bit better today but when I sit for any extended period it becomes very uncomfortable. I am so discouraged and tired. I had pain consistently for about 4 months before the surgery and am just so ready for it to be gone. He mentioned yesterday that there was a "nice little round ligament that ran right down to the ovary on the left side and perhaps that was the pain I was experiencing." He actually mentioned going back in and taking the ovary...I am overwhelmed and honestly in tears. There is no one that understands really what I am going through right now. My husband tries very hard to be supportive but even he is running low on patience. Can someone help me? Has anyone else ever been through this?
Thanks...

Re: Post op adhesion pain...

I haven't been through what you have, but I have been through a lot in the last few years. I'm so sorry that you are still experiencing so much pain. I hope the new med continues to make things better. Hopefully another sister will come along that can be more helpful, in the mean time, I'm sending some hugs your way!!

Re: Post op adhesion pain...

Hi peanut 1979,

I understand exactly how frustrated you are! It is a long road in dealing with adhesions. I cannot take any meds for my pain as my body cannot tolerate any of them. I do hope that your meds will help with your pain. My last surg. 2009
removed 32 adhesions from me and they had dislocated my bowels by 6 inches !! Ouch !! So I get it ! You are dealing with something that stumps most drs. My adhesions started growing back within 6 weeks of my last surg. So no more surg for me. Each time you have it done the worse they seem to get. Most of my pain is right side yet I have more adhesions on my left side. Its the bodies interpretation of pain. I have been seeing an accupuncture/md and a pt specialist in adhesions for about 4 months now. I am also on 3 different herbal meds for pain and inflammation from the adhesions. This has been a great help to me. My acc/md seems to think that over time my body can reabsorb these adhesions. This is a marathon and not a sprint! I will be glad to share more with you as I to have been married 15 years to a great man also. I have found good drs here to help with the intimate side of my marriage.

Hugs to you and keep us informed!
Keep positive and keep posting
