Is SLEEPING ALL DAY normal????
Hi, I had my total hyst. on Wed, July 8th - Davinci.... no complications, I have five little incisions that are not bothering me at all, I don't have any pain really to complain about in my abdomen - - I can tell someone was messing around in there but nothing to complain about... I just can't WAKE UP!!! I've been getting up at about 7 as usual, eating, watching a little tv or reading and then back to sleep by 9 until like noon - wake up eat, and do it all over again.... sleep sleep sleep sleep. Have not taken any pain pills since yesterday so I guess my body is just telling me to sleep so it can heal????? My kids keep asking "Mom are you OK? Why are you sleeping so much???" Just curious - I should be happy that I'm not in pain - no hot flashes - started HRT on Thursday it's just strange to me that a person can actually sleep approximately 18 out of 24 hours in a day!! Hope everyone is recovering nicely and feeling really well!!!

I had a TAH and slept a lot at first, too. I was just so tired!

It probably is just your body telling you to rest. It sounds like you are doing really well.

Re: Is SLEEPING ALL DAY normal????
Thanks everyone - just wondering why I am sleeping so much - I guess its just my body's way of saying slow it down a notch sister!! I am a "gotta go" kind of person and if I feel good - I'm gonna go go go - I'd end up hurting myself and have to keep reminding myself that just because Im not in pain does not mean that I did not just have major surgery!!! Hope everyone else is doing well

I had my surgery on the 8th too (LSH) - and I'm napping a lot, just like you describe. It's better today than yesterday, but my dr tells me it's not unusual.

Re: Is SLEEPING ALL DAY normal????
I slept a lot in the first week, but not so much anymore at two weeks out. It is nature's way of keeping you from over doing it. It's at this point, where I'm at, that you really have to curtail your urge to go insane and do something that is too strenuous. I've already cleaned out my clothes closet but I paced myself and took two days to do it. I'm just itching to do the things I never have time to do when I'm working.....

Re: Is SLEEPING ALL DAY normal????
Oh wow I slept so much the first week! That is all I did especially when I got home I would only get up to eat and then back to bed snooze all day and then all night. After maybe about week two I took one good nap then week three to four I had my first day without a nap and now I might take a small nap.

Re: Is SLEEPING ALL DAY normal????
I just got home from the hospital today- had a TVH on Friday afternoon- and I've been doing pretty much the same thing! Have had very little pain- moving around well, but have bouts of overwhelming sleepiness. It sounds like it's for our own good! Glad to hear you're doing well!

Re: Is SLEEPING ALL DAY normal????
I slept a lot until 6 weeks post op. I napped too much during the day then I couldn't go to bed at night. I'm still sleeping a lot now that the insomnia is gone. It's natures way of healing. I'm less grumpy with more rest. I'm a teacher so I sleep a lot in the summer to make up for the sleep I don't get during the school year. 3 more weeks until I go back to school. I was lucky to have 9 weeks to recover.

Re: Is SLEEPING ALL DAY normal????
When I had my complete hyster I was so tired it took alot for me to get my energy back. My Doctor told me it was normal and that is why they give you the amount of time to recover they do. It takes alot out of you and is major surgery. Give yourself time and as you feel like adding back normal daily things do, but don't do too much. Also remember not to lift more than you should.
