Re: da vinci hysterectomy

It is a breeze. You have nothing to worry about. I had mine done on Nov. 24th I was up the next day. the worst is day three when you have the gas pains in your tummy. I found drinking plenty of hot chicken broth, hot chocholate helps. make sure to take your stool softener so you don't rip anything out. and even when you feel better DON'T LIFT ANYTHING! I am finding it hard to not do my normal day chores. My Dr. put me on a vaginal cream to help build tissue. I have had one night that I spotted, It scared me to death. But I was told that it is not uncommon to see blod in the first six weeks. I done a lot of walking that day.
Let your husband and family help you with everything. I pretty much stayed in bed for the most of the first week, but getting up walking the house. Let us now how it goes

Re: da vinci hysterectomy

I am 7 weeks post-op DaVinci total - everything gone. The prep for surgery was the same thing you do for a colonoscopy...not fun but need the bowel out of the way. I woke up a little sick from the anesthesia which is common for me, vomitted once and then felt better. They gave me Torodol for the pain which was great and I slept peacefully until 4:15 a.m. the next morning when the dreaded "gas" hit. Felt like someone stabbing me. Spent the next day walking and drinking tons of water. Ended up staying in the hospital an extra day until I could pass gas. Best advice I can offer is drink lots of water. It helps you avoid constipation after the surgery. My recovery has been for the most part uneventful. I was so happy to find this website which answered a lot of my questions and made me realize I'm not alone. I am tired of the "swelly belly" but hope that soon it will disappear. I am back at work (my second day) and am really feeling exhausted when I am home. Take care, rest when you need to and let others help you. You deserve to be pampered during this recovery process. Good luck and God Bless You!!!

Re: da vinci hysterectomy

Thanks for sharing your experiences! It's so nice to hear from all of you...it doesn't seem like there are many dVH ladies on the boards.

When would you all say that your have felt completely recovered from this surgery? I know it's a biggie so 2 weeks can't be it!

Re: da vinci hysterectomy

To be honest I felt good enough to go back to work at 2 weeks but due to having a vaginal cuff and I have to squat at work my doctor said no because I could tear the cuff. I went back to work at 4 weeks and felt pretty good. If I had to be completely honest I really wish I had taken 6 weeks but I felt well enough to work but you only get one chance to recover so remember that.

Re: da vinci hysterectomy

My day is Monday 12/21..looking forward to it..after years of heavy bleeding, pain (abdominal/back during, before & after periods). This site seems so helpful and supportive, glad I found it!! DaVinci is planned, but due to fibroid behind the uterus, plans may change. Hoping to be back @ work 1st of January. Updates later..good luck to everyone!!

Re: da vinci hysterectomy

I think two weeks is way to soon to return to work. Even if you are sitting all day. I am three weeks now and I still have soreness in the tummy. I get tired easy. I would not rush this at all. I look and feel good on the outside but my insides are still sore...

That is my concern. My surgery is scheduled for December 23rd and I am scheduled to go back to work on January 11th. My doctor had scheduled me to go back on the 4th, but I am asking for an additional week just to give myself the time I need to heal.

Re: da vinci hysterectomy

My Dr. Put me on restrictions. We are just loosing our stitches at three weeks, but can still have bleeding up to six weeks. I have found that I have trouble urinating if I walk to much and spot a bit. There is no way that I want to jeopardize what I just had repaired. My back is pain free now.

Re: da vinci hysterectomy

I will be at 2 weeks tomorrow since I had my DVH and there is NO way I would want to go back to work. I have had very minimal pain, but my tummy on the bottom is still sore and still have a pain on my right side when bending down. It is hard for me just to sit and relax so maybe that has something to do with it.
I was scheduled to go back to work on 1-4 but we will see, may push it to 1-11.

I too was on the liquid diet the day before my surgery and I haven't had any problems with gas or BM. I think maybe that makes a big difference? I complained about it at first, but I do believed it helped me.
