5 days post op constipation

Ok am taking my stool softners did have one small movement since surgery. I cant handle eating anything because I feel like it is all backing up lol. I am trying to walk a little at a time off and on all day. I felt too good my second day home and did too much. I had some extra bleeding the third day so am trying to stay down now. One think I seem to notice was the last two days in the evening I have cramping in my lower abdominal area. I use the heating pad. Has anyone else had this problem(s)?

I think I was constipated the entire first week out of the hospital. It was horrible. Not uncommon though b/c the pain meds back you up. My doctor said eat stuff like fruits and veggies (especially spinach, watermelon, and leafy greens). She also suggested bran muffins and raisin bran. She said to avoid white bread because it becomes like glue. Since I'd been eating a lot of sandwiches I had to drop the bread in favor of whole wheat tortillas. I keep salad fixings cut up in the fridge so I could just assemble salads. It will pass eventually but you have to watch what you eat.

Milk of Magnesia is your friend, let it be... take 60cc every 4 hours until the **** busts. Then just take as needed. No joke! And then make sure you eat high fiber foods, apple juice, and try activa every morning. As a nurse I have given this advice a lot and had to do it for myself my first week post op. I'm 3 weeks now and adding the activa was a life saver in my opinion. I have never taken a stool softner.

I took some sort of vegetable based laxative and it worked like a charm... know all about the bloated feeling and not wanting to eat! Walking helped, but mostly the laxative!
