I need some help

I'm 8 days postop and I still have this horrible burning pain on the right side. If I stay still, it's okay and no pain. The second I move in any direction, walking, changing positions, whatever, it's back and it's bad. Motrin isn't really helping at 600 mg every 4 hours. I do plan on calling my MD today because I feel that the pain should be getting better. It's been the same since waking up from surgery. I know that nerve endings are involved as I had a TAH-BSO (horizontal abdominal incision), but this is ridiculous. I should be experiencing less pain and feeling better. I'm very discouraged at this point in time.

Hello I Teach! (me too)
Sounds like calling your doc is your best bet. Try not to wait so many days to call if you notice new or prolonged pains. It's probably nothing but worrying can drive you bonkers. Let me know what she says. Call TODAY!!!

I agree - give a call and see what is up. Let us know the dr. response.
You're early in recovery and it DOES get better!!

I need some help

Good Morning to You.
I just wanted to tell you that I can relate. I am 2 years post op today. I had the Bladder suspension done ( burch procedure) I had total hysterectomy too. I burned and burned. It took a while for me to heal. I think some of us go into to this surgery expecting to be ok real fast. It just doesn't work that way for some. I would call my MD though. Maybe they can give you some meds to help. I have had back surgery too. When you have nerve ending pain. Huggghhhh...It can really hurt.
On the good side. You WILL HEAL. And you will feel so much better after you do. Good luck to you. Please remember to take it easy and pamper yourself. Drink lots of H2O.
Sincerely, Sunshine 48

Most of the work my doc did was on my right side. My incision is wider in that area as well. My tumor was growing mainly on that side. I have chalked up the continued pain, similar to what you describe, to the fact that they did the most work over there.

That being said, if Motrin isn't touching it at all, then I would make a call.

Ladies, thank you so much for the support. I got in and out of the shower since I wrote my original post and do feel better. Maybe it's the Motrin kicking in--I don't know, but moving around a bit did seem to help, yet hurt at the same time. The pain has diminished some, but I'm still going to be cautious today. Maybe I just wasn't moving around enough. Does this sound right?

I'm glad you are feeling a little better but no, you still need to call the dr. Burning is something that needs to be reported since it has lasted so many days. Please do this. I know that all dr's office expect some kind of call from us Sisters. Please call now and tell us what they will do to help you.

If you're concerned about the pain, definitely call the doctor.

However, remember -- you're only a little over a week post-op. At your stage of the game, I was still taking prescription meds 'round the clock and I was waking up at night in terrible pain because when my vicodin had worn off.

My doc told me it would take a good 3-4 weeks before I would have long stretches of feeling better, and that I should measure my progress in "weeks" rather than days or hours. In other words, he said think of whether I feel generally better than a week ago, not whether or not I feel better than I did yesterday or earlier today. Sometimes recovery means a step forward, two steps back, three forward, and 1 back...

Hope this helps.

Could be the pain is also from gas and is a little better when moving around. I was put on Diclofenac when I left the hospital. It's an anti-inflamitory and boy did it cause sharp razor like pain from gas. I didn't realize that's what the pain was until I finished them and it went away. My brother said he was on it for a knee injury and it cause him pain too. Are you on anythng like that I Teach?
