megace and lupron

Have you ladies had luck with no bleeding on Megace and Lupron?
I had my Lupron injection almost one month ago, started bleeding 7 days ago. Was taking 2 bc pills a day per doctor. Monday she changed me over to Megace. No cramping but a horrible period. It's now Friday and nothings changed :-(
Any words of wisdom?
Surgery scheduled for April 11

Re: megace and lupron

Hi dragnfly -

I wish I could answer your questions, but I do not have experience with this. But, I have read other posts from other women on these drugs. Hopefully they will see this post and respond.

Re: megace and lupron

dragnfly,

I was still bleeding after two months of Lupron and Megace. It took a few more weeks to slow the bleeding to just mostly spotting. From what I've read it seems another period or two isn't unusual with Lupron.

Everyone is different so it's hard to say exactly what will happen but the Lupron does usually stop or at least slow the bleeding in the first or second month of use. It slowed mine enough that I didn't need another transfusion and was able to maintain my blood count for my surgery.

I hope the drugs kick in soon and stop your bleeding and cramps.

Re: megace and lupron

Thanks so much for the reply. Good to know there's hope, lol. I had labwork done earlier and my numbers aren't great. I'm actually about to head to the hospital. My doctor is concerned I'm hemorrhaging :-(

Oh no! Please take care of yourself and keep us posted.

I had to get two units of blood. I felt great very quickly with all the new blood!

Re: megace and lupron

Back home. ER Dr upped the Megace from 20mg/day to 80mg/day for 4 days, then 40mg a day from then out. Put me on iron pills and wants me off my feet. Easier said than done.
I wasn't sure what to expect at the hospital tonight. Curious to how my body will take that much megace

Re: megace and lupron

Hi dragnfly- I was in big trouble near hemoragging and very anemic when doc put me on Megace and iron pills. I had already been on birth control pills prior and did not work. My hysterectomy is scheduled April 10. I started on 20 mg about 2 months ago, and had to increase to 40mg. 3 weeks ago, then 60 mg two weeks ago and increase to three iron pills a day, and have been spotting since then. I have left messages with the office, as I am beginning to worry this will get worse. The increases in Megace only slightly increased the side effects I was already having- sweats, hungry, insomnia, and real tired. I hope you are not having any unwanted side effects from your increase. The doctor did not give me Lupron- but I wonder if they will when they hear from me? I am ready to get this over with! Hope your treatment works and you are well soon. Take care!
